Attacks on Sowore: Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria Condemns Security Crackdown on Protesters

 *Press Statement - May 31st 2021*

The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, GCSDN condemns in totality, the Nigeria Police Force’s crackdown on a protest at Abuja and the subsequent gun attack on Omoyele Steven Sowore today.

Omoyele Sowore, former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and the National Convener of the Take it Back Movement (TIB) was reportedly shot by ACP - Altine Daniel at close range.

The right to peaceful protest and assembly is an inalienable right of Nigerians. Any attempt to forcefully take this right away from Nigerians is a call to anarchy and a clear expression of authoritarianism.

It is a sad irony that this regime takes money to the forests to negotiate with murderous terrorists while peaceful unarmed protesters are shot or unlawfully detained. Nigerians must nit continue to stand aloof.

We hereby demand that all police officers involved in the shooting be brought to book IMMEDIATELY.

We further demand that all trumped up charges against Omoyele Sowore be dropped, while the federal government should call for a national dialogue and reconciliation to stop the continuing bleeding in our country.

Furthermore, we demand  that the five Senior Advocates of Nigeria in the administration of President-General Buhari should advise him and the Inspector General of Police, appropriately, in accordance with the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria and the tenets of human rights.

We believe that their advise may prevent future mockery of our country among the committee of nations.

If the President cannot restore normalcy and guarantee the lives and property of Nigerians, the Senate should take the bold step to impeach him in the interest of the country.

Nobody is bigger than Ngeria nor above the law.

A stitch in time saves nine.

Signed:

Prince Ewemade Konkons  P.R.O,GCSDN
