Basiru Lamidi Apapa was born into the family o Late Lamidi Akinrinade of Apapa Odan village in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo state on 16th February, 1950.
He was the second son of his mum to PA Akinrinade.
After primary school, he strived to acquire more education but circumstances then was beyond his control, therefore, he started self tutorials and was able to get his O'levels from Cambridge and in the process of doing that, he worked with some prominent Nigerians to gather money for his Driver's licence and later enlisted at the Police College, he worked briefly before he left the Police force.
He later joined the Trans Atlantic Haulage where he worked for sometime and later joined Khalil and Dibbo transport company where he acquired more skills in driving tankers and later worked with other transportation companies and became a unionist.
He started as a mere floor member to become the Ibadan Unit chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) of NUPENG, the first National Secretary of the same Unit and the firsr Tanker Driver to become the National Trustees of NUPENG. He later became the Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Despite all the challenges he was facing in his union, he was able to start his Degree programme at the Imo state University, Owerri where he bagged a BSc in Political Science and his Masters Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the Institute of African Studies, at the prominent University of Ibadan.
Apapa cut a Cliche for himself in the Labour movement and he happens to be a force to reckon with in the Labour Movement in Nigeria.
He was one of the founding fathers of the Party for Social Democracy (PSD) in 2002 before it changed its name the following year to Labour Party and has been a very active member, state executive and National Executives member.
He was the Deputy National Chairman until recently when he rose to the position of the Acting National Chairman because of the crisis in the party.
He goes out of his way to ensure there is peace, unity and harmony in the party both at the state, zone and national level.
Alhaji Apapa is someone that can be described as hardworking, humane, humble, responsible and responsive leader.
Many call him 'Baba Apapa', 'Comrade' but I call him "BASHLAM" is an epitome of Peace, he detest lateness, idleness and laziness.
He is always knowfn as a man of integrity. He refused to compromised while serving sell the NLC during the Late Lam Adesina administration in Oyo State.
He is married with children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved him for whom he is.
