OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR 5TH AUGUST, 2021: BE THOU PERFECT

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR 5TH AUGUST, 2021: BE THOU PERFECT

THEME: BE THOU PERFECT.

MEMORISE:

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

(Matthew 5:48)

READ: Genesis 17:1-9 (KJV)

1. And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3. And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying,

4. As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

9. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

MESSAGE:

There are many misconceptions about the demand of God for perfection. These misconceptions have led some people to conclude that perfection is unrealistic and so should be abandoned in the Christian walk.

My prayer is that the power of God will come upon you today and you will live in perfection as God demands, in Jesus’ name.

Why do people see God’s demand for our perfection as unrealistics? Many people think that perfection is to be attained by our strength. This is simply not so.

Nobody can attain anything by his or her own strength (1 Samuel 2:9). We need the power and wisdom of God for perfection.

The problem, however, is the belief of many that perfection is unattainable. They lack faith in God to help them become perfect.

This is why the Bible says: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Unbelief breeds disobedience as in the case of the first man and woman. They doubted the word of God and fell into imperfection through this unbelief! This was unlike Abraham in our text of today.

Thus, if you are struggling with unbelief, pray like that man whose child was tormented by demons “…Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief”

(Mark 9:24).

When people see a state of human perfection as a ‘mission impossible’, it is simply because they do not understand the concept from the point of view of the Lord.

How does God see perfection? You are perfect based on your obedience to what God asks you to do – even when it is neither ‘logically’ nor ‘politically’ correct.

Once you obey, He justifies you. We are justified through faith in the Son of the Living God (Romans 8:33).

Perfection and holiness share the same factor that makes them realistic and that is obedience.

Are you always obedient to the word of God? If you are, I congratulate you. If not, you must repent today, because tomorrow may be too late.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please let Your Holy Spirit quicken me to perfection, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Job 31-32

HYMN 14: JESUS, MY LORD, MY GOD, MY ALL.

1. Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,

Hear me, blest Saviour, when I call;

Hear me, and from Thy dwelling place

Pour down the riches of Thy grace;

REFRAIN:

Jesus, my Lord, I Thee adore;

O make me love Thee more and more.

2. Jesus, too late I Thee have sought;

How can I love Thee as I ought?

And how extol Thy matchless fame,

The glorious beauty of Thy name?

3. Jesus, what didst Thou find in me,

That Thou hast dealt so lovingly?

How great the joy that Thou hast brought

So far exceeding hope or thought!

4. Jesus, of Thee shall be my song,

To Thee my heart and soul belong;

All that I have or am is Thine,

And Thou, blest Saviour, Thou art mine.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY 19TH MAY, 2021: DEALING WITH PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS

THEME: DEALING WITH PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS

MEMORISE:

“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

(Matthew 18:18)

READ: Ephesians 6:10-18 (KJV)

10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

MESSAGE:

When your results do not match your efforts, when you continue to meet a brick wall from every direction, you may be under attack from principalities and powers.

The good news is that God is going to deal with negative powers blocking your way to both spiritual and physical prosperity in Jesus name.

We can draw a few things from the Scripture reading of today. One is that principalities and powers are personalities and we must deal with them as such.

Two, they are spirits, and cannot die. It will therefore take the power of God to deal with them. Every evil personality working against you shall be destroyed today in Jesus’ name.

Ephesians 6:12 says:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The Scripture above is why Paul admonished believers to put on the whole armour of God (Ephesians 6:11). The armour includes truth, righteousness and acceptance of the gospel of peace.

For evil gates to shift ground for your good, you must be born-again (John 3:3-5). Not only that, you must also live in truth and righteousness. You must be holy (Matthew 5:48).

You must also take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit – which is the word of God, with prayer and supplication in order to be able to resist and defeat the devil (Ephesians 6:13-18).

Beloved, for principalities and powers to lose their hold on you, you must allow Jesus into your life as Lord. He is knocking at the door now; allow Him in if you haven’t (Revelation 3:20).

I recall going to pray for a rich man who had been afflicted. This man refused to give his life to Christ even in that state and he eventually died.

My prayer for you today is that you will not be a victim of oppression; rather you will be a victor over the devil in Jesus’ name.

Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). If you have backslidden, you must return and restitute your ways (Revelation 2:5).

PRAYER POINT:

Father, help me to conquer all principalities and powers blocking my blessings, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME!

1. All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!

Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown Him Lord of all.

2. Let highborn seraphs tune the lyre,

and as they tune it, fall

Before His face Who tunes their choir,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Before His face Who tunes their choir,

and crown Him Lord of all.

3. Crown Him, ye morning stars of light,

Who fixed this floating ball;

Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,

and crown Him Lord of all.

4. Crown Him, ye martyrs of our God,

who from His altar call;

Extol the Stem of Jesse’s rod,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Extol the Stem of Jesse’s rod,

and crown Him Lord of all.

5. Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race,

ye ransomed from the fall,

Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,

Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Whom David Lord did call,

The God incarnate, Man divine,

and crown Him Lord of all,

The God incarnate, Man divine,

and crown Him Lord of all.

7. Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget

the wormwood and the gall,

Go spread your trophies at His feet,

and crown Him Lord of all.

Go spread your trophies at His feet,

and crown Him Lord of all.

THEME: YOU MUST LEAVE AND CLEAVE!

MEMORISE:

….For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Matthew 19:5

READ: Ephesians 5:25-31

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church;

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

MESSAGE:

Marriage is a good thing when God is in it. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:22:

"Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord."

This Scripture dismisses the wrong notion that marriage is an entanglement or a necessary evil. Our memory verse today reveals that the man must leave his parents and cleave to his wife. However, it takes love, the God-type of love for a man to totally leave his parents and cleave to his wife. For marriage to work, the man must strictly adhere to this twin-command – leaving (his parents) and cleaving (to his wife). This love we are talking about today is unconditional – it is not predicated on whether the woman is good or bad. The moment you say “I do”, you are under obligation to love your wife as yourself according to our Bible reading of today which says in part:

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself for it;” Ephesians 5:25

“But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.” 1 Corinthians 7:32-33

The truth in the above passage is that a man is under obligation to cater to the joy and well-being of his wife. Some so-called Christians are so careless about their marriage that they neglect the divine mandate of caring for the family – leaving the wife and children disillusioned about the faith.

To love is to care and to care encompasses the provision of basic amenities for the home. The Bible says in James 2:18:

"Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."

In the same way, men must show their love in practical terms to such an extent that there will be no doubt that they love their wives. Note that the Bible didn’t say abandon your family and friends, but you are to leave them and cleave to your wife in a lifelong union built on the sure foundation of the word of God.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the grace to love my spouse unconditionally.

HYMNAL: IN CHRIST ALONE MY HOPE IS FOUND

1. In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

2. In Christ alone! Who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live.

3. There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

4. No gift in life, no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life’s first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the love of Christ I’ll stand.
