OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TUESDAY 18TH MAY 2021: HAVE FAITH, NOT FEAR

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TUESDAY 18TH MAY 2021: HAVE FAITH, NOT FEAR

THEME: HAVE FAITH, NOT FEAR

MEMORISE:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

READ: Psalm 91:5-6

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

MESSAGE:

If you have given your life to Jesus, then you should have nothing to fear because you will begin to dwell in the secret place of the Most High where you are assured of His protection. There was no fear in man until he allowed the devil in. It was when the devil convinced Adam and Eve to disobey God that fear came in. After Adam and Eve sinned, they had to hide themselves when they heard God coming. When God called, Adam said he heard God's voice and he was afraid (Genesis 3:10).

Fear is the opposite of faith. While faith means that you believe God, fear means that you believe the devil. In other words, if you do not have faith, then you have fear. Fear belongs to the children of the devil. However, once you cross from the side of the devil to the side of God, there will be no more fear. This is because fear comes from darkness and since Jesus is Light, He will dispel all forms of darkness. When Jesus comes into your life, rather than fear, He gives you the Spirit of love, power joy and of a sound mind. Romans 8:14-15 says:

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."

Children of God are guided by the Holy Spirit. Jesus has promised to give all His children the power of the Holy Ghost so as not to be afraid. If you are a child of God, you have no business with fear. From time immemorial, God has always put a dividing line between those who serve Him wholeheartedly and those who refuse to. He always rewards everyone according to their works. If you are righteous, He rewards you so that you can remain so, if you are living in sin, He arranges for you to forsake wickedness and join the righteous family of God. Psalm 121:7says:

"The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul."

With all these wonderful promises, you have no cause to fear as God's child. Whatever is causing you to panic, the Lord will destroy it in your life and family in Jesus’ name. Do not be afraid, God is your refuge and the Present Help in the time of need (Psalm 46:1).

ACTION POINT:

Check your life and prayerfully do away with whatever brings fear, panic and anxiety.

HYMNAL: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

through eternal ages let His praises ring;

glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Saviour;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

by the living Word of God I shall prevail,

standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,

resting in my Saviour as my all in all,

standing on the promises of God.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR MONDAY 17TH MAY, 2021: HE WILL TAKE YOU THERE!

THEME: HE WILL TAKE YOU THERE!

MEMORISE:

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne.

Revelation 3:21

READ: John 14:1-3

1. Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in Me.

2. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

MESSAGE:

The ultimate goal of all genuine Christians is to make Heaven; this is why Jesus died for mankind. Jesus said of Himself in Luke 19:10:

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Only overcomers can make it to Heaven. How then can you overcome? First, you must overcome all the evil thoughts in your heart. Our Lord Jesus said in Revelation 3:20:

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me."

Proverbs 23:26 also says

"My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways."

Beloved, when we allow Jesus Christ to come into our hearts, He will give us victory over all the thoughts that defile us and make us candidates of hell. You must allow Jesus into your heart because naturally, the heart of man is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9).

What exactly is in the heart that makes it wicked? Mark 7:21-23 provides the answer to this question:

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."

It is only those who overcome the above listed sins who would get the power to enter into Heavenly bliss. You cannot do it by yourself; this is why you need Jesus, who can give you the power to live above sin. The power that overcomes sin is the power we need to make Heaven and Jesus is ready to give you if you are willing to forsake Satan, sin and every form of wickedness. You must make conscious efforts to flee all appearances of evil like Joseph did in Potiphar’s house. Beginning from now, your struggles with sin are over in Jesus’ name.

The power of “Go and sin no more” as was given by Jesus to the woman caught in the act of adultery shall be yours today and you shall make Heaven at last, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the power to overcome sin today. Make me a candidate of heavenly bliss, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: CONQUERORS AND OVERCOMERS NOW ARE WE

1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,

Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory

If the Lord be for us, we can never fail,

Nothing ‘gainst His mighty pow’r can e’er prevail.

Refrain:

Conquerors are we,

thro’ the blood, thro’ the blood,

God will give us victory,

thro’ the blood, thro’ the blood

Thro’ the Lamb for sinners slain,

Yet who lives and reigns again,

More than conquerors are we,

More than conquerors are we.

2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,

Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;

Not to us, but unto Him the praise shall be,

For salvation and for blood-bought victory.

3. Unto him that overcometh shall be giv’n,

Here to eat of hidden manna sent from heav’n,

Over yonder he the victor’s palm shall bear,

And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 16TH MAY, 2021: YOU CAN BE RICH AND RIGHTEOUS

THEME: YOU CAN BE RICH AND RIGHTEOUS

MEMORISE:

Riches and honour are with Me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. Proverbs 8:18

READ: Malachi 3:10-12

10 - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 - And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

12 - And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

MESSAGE:

Many children of God have misconceptions about prosperity. Some think that being a Christian means that they have to be poor, forgetting that God Himself said in Proverbs 8:18:

"Riches and honour are with Me; yea, durable riches and righteousness."

Imagine God, our Father having the possession of riches and righteousness. This revelation counters the notion that you cannot be righteous and rich at the same time. Today, I decree that the power to get wealth shall come upon you in Jesus’ name.

Those people who think that wealth is alien to God run after the devil and he deceives them into thinking that he has wealth. The devil tried this with Jesus in Luke 4:6-7, but our Saviour knows better. The truth is that only God can give you power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). He blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in their generations as we see in Genesis 22:15-18; 26:12-14; 32:9-10. When Jabez cried unto God in 1 Chronicles 4:10, God blessed him greatly. Peter, the struggling fisherman, encountered the King of glory at the lake of Gennesaret, and suddenly he became prosperous, looking for additional hands to help him gather his bountiful harvest (Luke 5:4-9). This same God will give you power to get wealth today in Jesus’ name.

The question now is “How do we get this power to become wealthy?” It is simple. Always worship the Lord with fear and trembling. Commit to meditating on His word (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 28:1). You must also not forget to be like Him in your dedication to service. God would only give His riches and honour to diligent people; you must never be lazy or idle. Furthermore, you must keep His commandments in the area of tithe, offering and first-fruits, remembering the needy, the widow and the orphans (Proverbs 19:17). Finally, you must live and spend your income prudently because Proverbs 21:17 says “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:…”

We shall be wise, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the power to get wealth and I will become a channel of blessing to the world.

HYMNAL: THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

There shall be showers of blessing:

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Saviour above.

Refrain:

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need;

Mercy drops ’round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing:

Precious reviving again;

Over the hills and the valleys,

Sound of abundance of rain.

There shall be showers of blessing;

Send them upon us, Oh Lord!

Grant to us now a refreshing;

Come and now honour Thy Word.

There shall be showers of blessing;

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now, as to God, we’re confessing,

Now as on Jesus we call!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2021: THE POWER OF PRAYER

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2021: THE POWER OF PRAYER

THEME: THE POWER OF PRAYER

MEMORISE: 1 John 5:14

And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:

READ: 1 John 5:14-15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:

15 And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.

MESSAGE:

There is power behind asking and receiving. If you do not believe this, read the story of Jesus and the boy who was possessed by a demon in Matthew 17:14-21. Only a child of God can decree a thing and shall be established as promised in Job 22:28. This is why it is important to be born again. The boldness to ask in faith and the power to receive belong to God, and He freely gives them to His children. Romans 8:26 says:

"Likewise   the   Spirit   also   helpeth   our infirmities:  for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

Going by the Scripture above, there is a need to be filled with the Holy Spirit if we would get this divine power. In other words, the power of prayer is given by the Holy Spirit. Jesus' disciples found it difficult to pray effectively when the Holy Spirit had not come upon them, as seen in Matthew 17:14-20. However, when the Spirit came upon them, not only were they able to pray effectively, they also started decreeing mighty things (Acts 4:31). You can also get this power to ask and receive, by resting on God's promises as contained in His word. For example, in John 16:23, Jesus said

"...Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you."

It is one thing to have the power to ask and it is another to have the power to receive. Sometimes, when God gives out His blessings to people, they may not have power of sonship to receive them. Peter almost missed his blessing but for the mercy of God. When he encountered Jesus at the lake of Gennesaret, he pleaded with Jesus to get away from him because he was guilt-ridden (Luke 5:8), whereas Jesus was actually offering him an apostolic office.

To get power to receive God's benevolence, therefore, you must have faith In Jesus. You must also live a life free of sin (Psalm 66:18). In addition to that, your prayer must not be marred with lust or ulterior motives (James 4:3). Beginning from now, you will be empowered to ask and receive in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the power to pray effectively so that whatever I decree here on earth shall be established in Heaven.

Standing, standing,

by the living Word of God I shall prevail,

HYMNAL: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

through eternal ages let His praises ring;

glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:

Standing, standing,

standing on the promises of God my Saviour;

standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

by the living Word of God I shall prevail,

standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,

resting in my Saviour as my all in all,

standing on the promises of God.

THEME: HEARKEN UNTO GOD

MEMORISE:

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38

READ: Mark 14:37-38

37. And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

38. Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

MESSAGE:

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by anyone you consider to be your guide or guardian. More often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to pay attention to the details of the instructions given to us.

The apostles of old also struggled with this lack of adequate attention to detailed instructions and we must learn from them. When our Lord came face to face with the reality of the cross, He admitted that it was not an easy burden to bear (Mark 14:34). There is only one way to pass the tests of these present times – prayer. He went to pray and told the disciples to do the same - though not for Him, but themselves.

In our memory verse today, Jesus said they should watch and pray so as not to enter into temptation but they were busy sleeping.

At a point, Jesus was so moved by their insensitivity to the reality at hand that He said to Peter “Simon, sleepest thou? Couldest not thou watch one hour?” (Mark 14:37).

Beloved, to make it to the end of our Christian race, let us pay close attention to the details of the Lord’s injunctions and we shall be glad we did. When the Lord said “Bring ye all the tithes to the storehouse” – Malachi 3:10, He meant all the tithes. You do not need an Advanced Learners Dictionary to understand what ‘all' means. It is clear that in this case, ‘all’ means everything that makes up one tenth of your income. The Bible says in (1 Corinthians 11:6):

"For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered."

Here, Apostle Paul did not say much on why a woman should cover her head while praying or prophesying. However, a conscientious child of God would not press for too many details before she jumps at this simple instruction of covering the head while praying. We should learn to hearken to the word of God whether it is convenient to do so or not.

Paying close attention to the details of God’s instructions can make the difference between speedy results and delayed blessings. God asked Abraham to leave his entire family and he obeyed but not completely as he took Lot – his nephew along with him. The manifestation of God’s promise in the life of Abraham did not come to pass until Lot separated from him. Hearken unto God.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the grace to pay attention to the details of Your instructions, even when I do not understand them fully, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR

 1. I need Thee every hour,

most gracious Lord;

No tender voice like Thine

can peace afford.

Refrain:

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Saviour,

I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour,

stay Thou nearby;

Temptations lose their pow’r

when Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour,

in joy or pain;

Come quickly and abide,

or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour;

teach me Thy will;

And Thy rich promises

in me fulfill.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY 12TH MAY, 2021: YOU TOO CAN BE A CHILD OF GOD

THEME: YOU TOO CAN BE A CHILD OF GOD

 MEMORISE:

But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: John 1:12

READ: John 1:11-12

11. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.

12. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name;

MESSAGE:

There is virtually nothing anyone can do without power. It is generally described as the ability to act or produce an effect; it can also mean the possession of control, influence, legal and or official authority over others. Power can be physical, mental, political, economic or spiritual. The power we are looking at today however, encompasses all spheres of human endeavours; it is the divine power available for children of God as we see in the memory verse for today.

Seeing that some degree of power is required in order to become a child of God, the question then is how can a person get this power. Beloved, this divine power is given by the Father Himself. If anyone wishes to become a child of God, he or she must first come to the Father in repentance. Many have perished in sin, sickness, poverty, addictions, and other forms of bondage, because they rejected the Gospel of the Father and so did not receive the power to become children of God. Romans 3:23 says:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

Thus, to become a child of God, you must be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-5). The power to become a child of God is also hidden in the word of God (Ephesians 5:26). You must begin to act on the infallible word of God. It is only then that the power to become His child would come upon you mightily (James 1:22-25).

There are so many rights and privileges of being God’s child. If you are yet to be born again, you are missing a lot. When you become a child of God, you immediately become joint-heirs with Jesus Christ in glory. Thus, you become bold to confront your adversaries and they will flee from you. You receive all-round protection according to Isaiah 54:17. Your prayers will receive speedy answers from your Father in Heaven and finally, you will make it to Heaven when you close your eyes in death. In other words, you will escape the agony of the second death as it is written in Revelation 21:8. Praise the Lord!

PRAYER POINT:

Father, give me the power to become Your child today. I reject the devil and his deeds. I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour forever, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the blood,

From Thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure,

Save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Not the labours of my hands

Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;

Could my zeal no respite know,

Could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone;

Thou must save, and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,

Simply to the cross I cling;

Naked, come to Thee for dress;

Helpless, look to Thee for grace;

Foul, I to the fountain fly;

Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath,

When my eyes shall close in death,

When I soar to worlds unknown,

See Thee on Thy judgement throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee.

THEME: SERVICE TO THE ANOINTED

MEMORISE:

For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. Mark 9:41

READ: Matthew 10:40-42

 40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

MESSAGE:

Another reason Elisha achieved uncommon greatness is that he was devoted to God's servant, Elijah. The Bible says that Elisha poured water on Elijah's hands, meaning that he served him. Beloved, there are lots of blessings reserved for those who serve God's prophets. Matthew 10:41 says:

 "He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward."

When a man of God says, "God bless you", he is not just speaking idly; he is loading you with prophetic blessing that will give you tremendous testimonies. This is why you must be ready to do anything that will qualify you for such a divine blessing. One of my sons-in-the-Lord in the United States once shared his testimony thus: "The last time the General Overseer (G.O.) was here, my pastor told me I had been chosen to drive him throughout the duration of his visit I tried to explain that I was preparing for a major examination and might not be able to. However, the pastor insisted. In the end, I decided that since the G.O would only be spending one day, I could manage to combine the driving assignment with my preparation for the crucial examination. To my surprise the G.O. spent a whole week. When he was finally leaving, he simply said to me "God bless you". To the glory of God, despite the limited time I had for studying, I passed my examinations with flying colors and I got a new job. Now that the G.O. is here on another ministerial visit, I must be the one to drive him". You will never miss your reward in Jesus' name.

Elisha was committed to the business of the kingdom; that was why the only thing he wanted from Elijah was a double portion of his spirit He knew if he had what he would use for God's work he would get every other thing as promised in Matthew 6:33. God is looking for believers who are committed to kingdom business. Will you be available? As you work for God and serve His anointed ministers, God will remember your labor of love and bless you tremendously in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

Think of what you can do to extend the frontiers of God's Kingdom on earth and begin to act decisively today.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

READ: 1 Kings 19:19-21

19. So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20. And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?

21. And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

MESSAGE:

Some people do not get the best from God because they hold on to what they think is good, and miss out on something better. Elisha was rich; he was the son of one of the wealthiest farmers of his era. By today’s valuation, his father could be said to have had twelve tractors working on his large farmland. Any farmer who had twelve tractors, without doubt, can be classified as a multimillionaire. Elisha was comfortable; however, God had something greater for him.

 Don’t be among those who settle for the minimum level of prosperity while the maximum is begging for possession. God wants to take you to the highest level of wealth attainable. Elisha thought he was wealthy, but he did not know that a day would come when kings would serve him and call him “Father!” He thought he was going to die a rich farmer but God had a better plan for him. God has a glorious plan for you too. Presidents will serve you before you leave this world.

Elisha was wise. When he encountered God, he traded his level of achievement for a higher one by allowing God to have His way in his life. Elisha surrendered; he gave up sugar to receive honey. On the day the mantle of Elijah fell upon him, his life changed. God brought Elisha to the realm of ultimate greatness. He knew then that to receive ultimate greatness from God, he needed to surrender what he was holding on to. Beloved, you must offer God what appears to be your best at the moment, so that He can give you what is better than your best. Peter and the disciples did the same in Mark 10:28, and were eventually rewarded:

"…Lo, we have left all, and have followed Thee.”

How will God give you the best He has in store for you? What will God do to make you rich beyond your wildest imagination? I don’t really know. However, one thing I know is that God can do anything just to bless you. Whatever He has promised, He will definitely fulfil. If you are expecting a better tomorrow, be prepared to give up and surrender your best to God today. He will surely reciprocate by giving you something better than your best.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me to surrender all to You, so that what I consider to be good will be replaced by those better things You have for me, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE

Take my life, and let it be

Consecrated, Lord to Thee;

Take my moments and my days,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move

At the impulse of Thy love;

Take my feet, and let them be

Swift and beautiful for Thee,

Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice and let me sing

Always, only, for my King;

Take my lips and let them be

Filled with messages from Thee,

Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold;

Not a mite would I withhold;

Take my intellect, and use

Every power as Thou shalt choose,

Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine,

It shall be no longer mine:

Take my heart, it is Thine own;

It shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour

At Thy feet its treasure store;

Take myself, and I will be

Ever, only, all for Thee,

Ever, only, all for Thee.

MEMORISE:

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 9TH MAY 2021: NO HOPELESSNESS IN GOD

THEME: NO HOPELESSNESS IN GOD

MEMORISE:

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Job 14:7

READ: 2 Kings 4:1-7

1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

MESSAGE:

When God steps into any situation, He turns things around. God can transform a debtor to someone who lends to nations, He can turn a destitute widow to the richest person in her community.

There is a beautiful story in the Scripture reading of today; it illustrates how God can change anyone's story provided the fellow is obedient. When you have an encounter with God, you only need to carry out the divine instructions given to you for your story to become a reference point of the wonders of God. The widow who had lost all hope, had an encounter with God through His prophet, Elisha and her story changed for good.

We can learn a few things from her. You would see that she desperately cried for help. Beloved, if any hopeless fellow will receive aid from the "Present Help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1), such a person must cry to God in desperation. God is eager to intervene in the affairs of those who will cry unto Him for help. Jeremiah 29 :13 says:

 "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Anyone who makes the effort to seek God will surely find him. However, as long as you decide to manage without crying to God in prayer, you will remain in your present condition. When you are truly tired of your situation, like the woman in the Bible reading of today, you will cry out to God in desperation. The Bible did not say the widow had a chat with Elisha, rather it says that she cried unto Him because she was in desperate need of a miracle. She did not murmur before the prophet, neither did she grumble to attract his attention nor seek the sympathy of the people. Instead, she cried out for divine intervention, got Heaven's attention and her problem was permanently solved.

As you cry to God today, He will answer you and every hopeless situation in your life will turn around for good. Hope will rise for you and you will sing a new song of victory in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

Cry unto God today and ask Him to intervene in your situation.

 HYMNAL: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING.

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,

Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

o Refrain:

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see

Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;

Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,

Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,

Resting in my Savior as my all in all,

Standing on the promises of God.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 8TH MAY, 2021: CONSISTENT SOWING

THEME: CONSISTENT SOWING

MEMORISE:

In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

READ: 1 Kings 3:4

4. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

1 Kings 8:63-64

63. And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

64. The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings; because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

MESSAGE:

You must keep sowing if you want to experience abundance. This is because while the first seed may open the door to blessings; it takes persistent sowing to keep the door open permanently. What opened the door of blessing for the widow of Zarephath was the first cake she made for Elijah; however, what kept the food flowing was that she kept on making food for God’s prophet every day. Persistent giving will lead you to a life of unlimited abundance. Had the widow of Zarephath stopped giving by the third day, then her own source of supply could have dried up.

"And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. 1 Kings 8:63

The first time Solomon sacrificed to God, he offered a thousand burnt offerings (1 Kings 3:4). However, as you would see from the Scripture above, God prospered him so much that he later sacrificed one hundred and forty-two thousand oxen. Solomon kept on increasing wealth because he kept on giving. In the end, he became so rich that nobody could attempt to count the amount of silver he had. In the name that is above every other, you will be so rich that only higher denominations like the hundred dollar note and its equivalent will make sense to you.

The mystery behind the abundance the widow of Zarephath experienced is her uncommon faith in God. She gave her only food to Elijah because she saw the importance of surrendering her future into the hands of his God. Before this secret of abundant blessing works for you, you too must first surrender your life to Jesus, if you haven’t. Then you must consistently sow the seed of righteousness, peace and love with diligence. Rest assured, your labour of love in life and ministry will not be in vain.

Every seed you are sowing with tears today will yield a continuous harvest to your credit in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, I commit my life into Your hand. Please, let my future be great, and let me enjoy a continuous harvest for the rest of my life, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMNAL: WHEN UPON LIFE’S BILLOWS YOU ARE TEMPEST TOSSED

1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Refrain:

Count your blessings, name them one by one,

Count your blessings, see what God has done,

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,

And you will be singing as the days go by.

3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,

Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold,

Count your many blessings, money cannot buy

Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

4. So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged, God is over all;

Count your many blessings, angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

THEME: WHAT YOU SOW, YOU WILL REAP!

MEMORISE:

“But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”

(2 Corinthians 9:6)

READ: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (KJV)

6. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

7. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work;

MESSAGE:

Many years ago, I gave seven elders of the church some neckties I had been wearing previously, assuring them that the items were anointed.

To the glory of God, whenever they ministered with those neckties on, miracles happened.

However, not long after, I observed a trend; I started getting gifts of neckties. I asked God “Can’t these people give me something other than neckties?” God said “Son, if you sow ties, you will reap ties”.

I immediately got the message and decided to start sowing shoes. I gave out a good number of shoes, among which were some of my favourites to some pastors who wore similar sizes. I expected a harvest of new shoes the month after but there was none.

When another month rolled by and I still didn’t get anything, I went to God. It was then that the Lord taught me another lesson; He said “Son if you plant maize, you can harvest it within three months, but if you plant yam, you have to wait a little longer.”

James 5:7 says:

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.

Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

God said to me “The greater the quality of the seed sown, the more time you have to spend waiting for the harvest. The shoes you sowed are of greater value than the ties you gave out. Thus, you will have to wait a little longer. Once the harvest starts however, there would be no stopping it”.

Not long after, I began to get gifts of shoes of different sizes and colours. When the harvest eventually came in full, I was pleasantly surprised.

As a child of God, you must bear in mind that God is supreme and He does as He pleases in all situations and circumstances (Psalm 115:3). God may choose to act differently in terms of the nature, quantity and timing of an individual’s harvest. He can cause your harvest to come sooner or later than expected.

What is certain however, is that if you have sown any seed, the harvest will come at God’s appointed time. You will not miss your harvest, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me not to be weary in well-doing and help me to be more fruitful every day of my life.

Matthew 27-28

HYMNAL: WE ARE NEVER, NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG.

We are never, never weary of the grand old song,

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

We can sing it loud as ever, with our faith more strong,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

REFRAIN:

O, the children of the Lord have right to shout and to sing,

For the way is growing bright, and our souls are on the wings,

We are going by and by to the palace of the King,

Glory to God Halleluyah.

We are lost amid the rapture of redeeming love,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

We are rising on its pinions to the hills above,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

Where the King in all His splendour we shall soon behold,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

There we’ll shout redeeming mercy in a glad new song,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

There we’ll sing the praise of Jesus with the blood washed throng,

Glory to God, Halleluyah!

8. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work;

MEMORISE:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

READ: 1 Kings 17:12-16

12 - And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 - And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 - For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 - And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 - And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spake by Elijah.

MESSAGE:

Since creation, God has continually been working on His creatures to achieve His purpose. Rather than create other men and women after Adam and Eve, Genesis 1:28 says God empowered the first family to multiply. God likes to use what He has created to meet the subsequent needs of His creatures.

In 1 Kings 17, God sent Elijah to the household of a widow who was preparing to eat her last meal, then die. There are a few lessons from this incident. First, her house was available for God to use as a point of contact for her household and the prophet. Your house will be a point of contact for the miraculous, in the mighty name of Jesus. One way of making your house a point of contact for the miraculous is by surrendering it for use as a House Fellowship centre. Peter did the same when Jesus asked him to surrender his boat for a preaching engagement (Luke 5:3). The boat later became a point of contact for the miraculous catch of a multitude of fish.

Secondly, God said “… I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” The widow obeyed God’s command despite the fact that it appeared difficult. This was why she became a point of contact for the miraculous. Thirdly, she gave up the last handful of meal and little oil she had and they became a point of contact through which she got her miracle. She was a sincere woman of faith. She seemed to be saying to herself, like David did in Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want (even though I surrendered my last meal to Him)”. She exposed her last meal to the wonder-working God to work with and it became a point of contact. This was the exact thing the lad in John 6:5-13 did and he had a remnant of twelve basketsful on the loaves he lent Jesus Christ. I pray that the Lord will feed you abundantly even in times of famine, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Beloved, your first point of contact is your relationship with Jesus. How is it at the moment? He wants to have an intimate relationship with you in holiness. If you are still living in sin, accept Jesus as your Saviour, if you are His child already, stay connected and you too will experience miracles.

ACTION POINT:

Determine to lend to God by giving sacrificially to His work this year. You will experience God’s glory in its fullness.

HYMNAL: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS,

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

2. O what peace we often forfeit,

o what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer!

3. Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

4. Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

5. Are we weak and heavy laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Saviour, still our refuge-

take it to the Lord in prayer!

6. Do thy friends despise, forsake you?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He’ll take and shield you;

You will find a solace there.

 MESSAGE:

Givers always get the attention of Heaven; I know this from the story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4:8-17. When you do what God wants, He will respond by meeting your needs supernaturally and promptly. The Shunammite woman took care of Elisha; she demonstrated an uncommon commitment to the man of God. As a result, one day, the Spirit of God led Elisha to ask her what she needed. The man of God found out she was barren and prophesied into her life in 2 Kings 4:16-17:

 "....About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the woman conceived and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life."

Without fail, God's word through Elisha came to pass. Beloved, when you give to God sacrificially, the impossible will become possible in your life. I recall a brother who volunteered to drive me everywhere I went while on a ministerial assignment in Eastern Nigeria. When it was time for me to leave, I gave him some money in appreciation of his gesture, saying "Brother, kindly give this small gift to your children". His response shocked me. He shouted "Amen" continuously and prayerfully. I asked the Pastor-in¬ Charge of that Province why the brother was so enthusiastic about the gift I gave his children. I was told that although the brother was so rich, he didn't have any child. I said God would surprise him with a miracle. When I visited the city the following year, the same brother was at the airport to pick me up. However, this time, he surprised me with a gift. With tears of joy streaming down his face, he said ''This is a gift from my first son". He who had been childless for years became a proud father miraculously, simply by offering to drive God's servant in his car and believing the word of the Lord. His reproach was rolled, away. I pray that your next offering will bring a gift that money cannot buy into your life in Jesus' name. Begin to give sacrificially from today and the Lord will bless you beyond your wildest dreams.

MESSAGE:

One of the qualities which earned Elisha greatness is that he was hard-working.

Beloved, if God decides to bless you today but you are lazy, you will never get the blessing.

If you want extraordinary blessings, then you must be prepared to work extraordinarily hard. Proverbs 22:29 says:

"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."

Elisha did not walk around lazily, only dishing instructions to his father’s labourers; rather he worked along with them as we see in 1 Kings 19:19. All of Jesus’ disciples were hard-working too. He called each one of them while they were on the pathway of duty. Peter was a skilful fisherman before the Lord called him, Matthew too was at his tax collection point when he was called by the Lord. Beloved, Christianity does not excuse anyone from work.

In my early days as a Christian, I had some believer friends who were quite lazy; they preferred to talk big than to work hard. We were all taught the principles of faith and positive confessions but I knew that achieving greatness in life goes beyond mere confessions. Some of my friends would always make positive confessions without any corresponding hard work to back them up. They spent years saying “I am a millionaire and possess a good car by faith” without working.

In the end, they remained as poor as they were at the beginning of their confessions. Beloved, if you refuse to work and you go about confessing that you have claimed the car of your dreams by faith, the only car you will end up with will be your two legs.

Another quality which earned Elisha greatness is that he was very generous. As soon as he was called, he prepared a feast and fed his people. What qualified the Phillippians for God’s supplies in Philippians 4:19 is found in verses 15-18. As you work hard and give generously to God’s work as well as the needy in your neighbourhood, God will bless you beyond your imagination, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, give me the strength to work hard. Please also give me the seed to sow into Your kingdom and the lives of the needy.

HYMNAL: I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY,

1. I’m pressing on the upward way,

New heights I’m gaining every day;

Still praying as I onward bound,

“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Refrain:

Lord, lift me up and let me stand,

By faith, on Heaven’s tableland,

A higher plane than I have found;

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2. My heart has no desire to stay

Where doubts arise, and fears dismay;

Though some may dwell where those abound,

My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3. I want to live above the world,

Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;

For faith has caught the joyful sound,

The song of saints on higher ground.

4. I want to scale the utmost height

And catch a gleam of glory bright;

But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,

“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

MESSAGE:

One of the qualities which earned Elisha greatness is that he was hard-working.

Beloved, if God decides to bless you today but you are lazy, you will never get the blessing.
