Igangan, one of the towns in Ibarapa North local government, Oyo State

Igangan, one of the towns in Ibarapa North local government, Oyo State

More than 20 people have been allegedly killed in Igangan, one of the towns in Ibarapa North local government, as gunmen opened fire last night.

The Palace of the Asigangan as well as a popular petroleum station were not spared. They were razed by the suspected bandits numbering 50, who were said to have invaded the town around 11 pm in more than 20 motorcycles.

This is coming few days after the chairman Oyo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, General Kunle Togun (rtd) alleged that foreign Fulanis have encamped the entire Southwest region and may strike if nothing is done urgently.

A former caretaker chairman of the council, Tunji Omolewu, who confirmed the incident said he had to rush down around 5 am this morning.

”People had barely retired to bed when they said they sighted motorcycles entering the town. Before our people could know what was going on, they had started killing people. I got the call around 11 pm. We were on our way from Ekiti where we had gone to do the Yoruba nation rally. I got to Ibadan around 12 am and when the calls did not stop coming, I decided to come home. I have counted more than 20 dead bodies. The palace of our monarch was torched. Adolak filling station too was burnt. We are assembled here…” he said, almost breaking down in tears.

A former caretaker chairman of neighbouring Ibarapa Central, Yemi Akinlabi, who is holidaying in the United States, said his phone was bombarded with calls.

”It is so sad. Only few days ago, our people got intelligence report and forwarded it to the appropriate quarters for actions but here we are today. Are we going to continue to live in fear in our land? I have spoken to General Toogun about last night’s incident and we would want him and his team to do something. Our people must not be allowed to resort to self-help,” he added.

I CONDEMNED THE HORRIBLE ATTACKS ON PEOPLE OF IGANAGN, IBARAPALAND, CALL OYO STATE GOVERNMENT TO REDRESS SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IN THE STATE

I CONDEMNED THE HORRIBLE ATTACKS ON PEOPLE OF IGANAGN, IBARAPALAND, CALL OYO STATE GOVERNMENT TO REDRESS SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IN THE STATE

The security architecture of Oyo State need to be redress in other to arrest all the drift to the anarchy of the nation.

The horrible Attacks on people of Igangan is now alarming and all hands must be on deck to address this issue of insecurity.

Our deepest condolences to all the families bereaved, It is our prayer that, Almighty God grant the demise enternal rest and grant the concerned families the fortitude to bear this irreparable lost.

The Saddly part of it all is the ineptitude and inability of our security agencies to apprehend the drift to the anarchy of the incident.

I urge the state government to set-up proper security network and engage the youth in reforming the security architecture of Oyo State.

I also call on all the relevant security agencies to be pro-active in discharging thier duties.

The security of the common man must take preeminence.

Oyo State must be save.

Voice from Igangan: Governor Seyi Makinde misrepresented Ibarapa people in Abuja

Voice from Igangan: Governor Seyi Makinde misrepresented Ibarapa people in Abuja

It was very painful listening to How Gov Makinde presented Igangan case before President Buari.

Hecompletely exonerated Seriki Fulani of any wrong doing thereby given room to Federal Government to be witch-hunting Sunday Igboho.

Governor Seyi Makinde made it clear that Seriki Fulani has been living in Igangan for the past 40 years, but he failed to reason why the problem now if People of Igangan have accommodated him all this while. Yoruba adage says that no smoke without a fire or better put, ese kii se lasan.

Governor Seyi Makinde and his security personnel failed to investigate and make any arrest despite several killing in Ibarapa and okeogun axis. Despite all the allegations of conspiracy leveled against Seriki and his children, Governor can passed such a comment.

I salute the courage of sons and daughters of Ibarapa and okeogun at large. But we should know that it is not yet over until it is over. Let us not sleep with our 2eyes closed. Governor has requested for more Squadron police, which I believe would be posted to Ibarapa and Igangan in particular. Be of good courage and ready to condemn any act of oppression from any quarter and ready to provide support to Chief Sunday Igboho in any form we can. Ibarapa a gbe wa o.

Dr Akintola,

Igangan.
