NIGERIAN ARMY – NO CAUSE FOR PANIC OVER SUSPECTED OUTBREAK OF LASSA FEVER IN 44 NARHK

NIGERIAN ARMY – NO CAUSE FOR PANIC OVER SUSPECTED OUTBREAK OF LASSA FEVER IN 44 NARHK

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been dawn to public concern and apprehension resulting from a leaked correspondence by its medical experts over a suspected outbreak of what presents as Viral Hemorrhagic disease aka Lassa Fever, in one of its medical facilities in Kaduna State.

While it is yet unclear what we are actually dealing with, the Nigerian Army wishes to confirm that there was indeed some suspicion of what presented as acute Viral Hemorrhagic disease in the Accident and Emergency unit of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna (NARHK), which has resulted in the death of a couple of its medical staff serving in the hospital.

In line with best practice in managing such a situation, contact tracing to what is believed to be the index case has been made to a non-military patient who was referred to 44 NARHK from a peripheral medical facility. The suspected index patient was managed but subsequently died two weeks ago in the hospital. Sadly, three medical staff of the hospital that had direct contact with the suspected index case have also died within the past 48 hours.

In response to the suspected outbreak, directives have been passed that Prevention Control (IPC)  measures in and around all military health care facilities in Kaduna be stepped up as part of measures to curtail further spread and loss of lives. In this wise, all medical staff of the hospital, their family members and other patients on the contact tracing list have commenced appropriate management and so far nothing of concern has been observed.

Furthermore, the entire hospital facility has been disinfected, while immediate closure and evacuation of the Accident and Emergency ward of the 44 NARHK has been ordered to allow for thorough fumigation, decontamination and emplacement of other measures of Infection Prevention Control (IPC) .

As a responsive and responsible organization, the Nigerian Army has also escalated the development to other relevant national and state agencies. As of the time of this statement, samples have been taken from suspected contacts and the deceased and sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory in Kano for analysis. Similarly, the Kaduna state Epidemiologists have been invited to help in unraveling the unfolding development.

It is imperative to point out, that the Nigerian Army as part of its civil-military relations welfare scheme offers medical services to civilians in its host communities. Thus, about 500 civilians receive medical attention weekly at 44NARHK. This unfortunate development is only a setback in our efforts to give back to the society and will not stop the Nigerian Army from continuing this moral obligation to the host communities.

As of now, all Nigerian Army medical facilities in Kaduna and environs have been put at alert on the need to emplace necessary IPC measures and closely monitor patients, staff and family members.

The Nigerian Army urges members of the general public to not panic, as adequate measures have already been put in place to contain the suspected outbreak. It equally assures that its collaboration with all relevant stakeholders is open, transparent and in tandem with international best practice.

Pet parrots declared a threat to endemic birds

Pet parrots declared a threat to endemic birds

A biologist has called for a nationwide ban on breeding and selling man’s favorite talking birds in New Zealand

Hundreds of pet parrots flee from their owners in New Zealand every year, putting the island nation’s endemic birds, many of which are already endangered species, under a serious threat, a biologist has warned.

An average of 331 parrots escape or are deliberately released into the wild annually in the country, according to Dr. Margaret Stanley, an associate professor in biological studies at the University of Auckland.

The actual figure should be much higher than that as her statistics were only based on the lost birds that are reported by their owner, she added.

But even the conservative numbers are alarming, with simulations run by Stanley revealing a high chance of escaped parrots of the same species meeting in the wild and starting to reproduce.

“We looked at all the details on survivorship and lifespan for these species, and what we found was that for the seven species that we modeled, it was more than an 80% chance that a male-female pair were at large in the same local board area, at any given time,” the biologist told the Guardian.

The number was “even worse” and reached 100% for species like the Indian ring-necked parakeet and the Alexandrine parakeet as they could hybridize with each other, Stanley added.

Parrots might be cute and colorful creatures, but they could become a real menace for New Zealand’s unique birds, 40% of which are already considered endangered.

The uncontrolled breeding of the invasive species will eventually see them competing with local birds for food and nesting space, she explained. The parrots also carry diseases.

New Zealand’s fauna has already suffered immensely over time, thanks to the rabbits, rats, and possums brought into the country in the 19th century. Stanley and her colleagues are eager to prevent the parrots from doing even more damage.

The selling and breeding of several species of these exotic birds, including monk and ringneck parakeets, as well as rainbow lorikeets, will be banned in Auckland from September 1. It’s being done as part of the city’s pest management plan.

But Stanley insisted that it’s not enough: Breeders are already considering moving out of Auckland to go on with their business. The measure “is a little bit toothless if it’s not nationwide,” she argued, calling for parrots to be outlawed everywhere across the country.

Circumstances of Dr Mailafia's Death: Press Statement by MBF

Circumstances of Dr Mailafia's Death: Press Statement by MBF

 MIDDLE BELT FORUM

Press Statement

The death of the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, Abuja,  this morning came to us as a great shock. As someone who relentlessly participated in the activities of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), his untimely death has dealt  a deadly blow on ethnic nationalities of not only the Middle Belt but the country at large.

Arising from various enquiries from Nigerians over the circumstances of his death, the Forum wishes to state as follows: That Dr Mailafia arrived Abuja last Sunday September 12, 2021 from Akure and was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by his wife.

On arrival at home, the wife noticed he was not in the best of health conditions and seemed to be suffering from malaria. After three days of treatment without signs of improvement, he went to the CBN Hospital on Friday September 17, 2021 where he was shabily treated. It took the intervention of a senior medic who immediately placed him on oxygen and admitted him.

Dr Mailafia's was later given the option of choosing three hospitals: Gwagwalada Hospital, National Hospital and EHA Clinics. The wife opted for the third choice. On arrival at the EHA Clinics, the wife was subjected to yet another moment of anxiety as it took a direct order from the top management of the hospital to accept him.

After few hours of treatment, the EHA Clinics told the wife that it was expedient to transfer the former CBN Deputy Governor to Gwagwalada as the clinic was not fully equipped to handle the case.

The wife opposed the decision and insisted that she was opposed to the idea of taking her husband to Gwagwalada. Mailafia's wife only succumbed when the consultant assured her that nothing bad will happen to her husband.

Yesterday, Saturday September 18, 2021, Dr Obadiah was transfered to Gwagwalada. on arrival, the name of the doctor that was billed to attend to Dr Mailafia was not on duty. Even when an attempt was made by foreign health consultants to save the situation, the doctor on duty got angry and said he was not obligated to listen to any foreign consultants that had been brought into the matter with the sole purpose of ensuring nothing  goes wrong.

Wife of the former CBN Deputy Governor was asked to pay the sum of N600'000 as deposit even when it was a referral case, with accruing medical bill to be settled by the CBN. At a point, Dr Mailafia complained over his breathing problems and pleaded with the doctors to place him in a ventilator. The doctors flatly refused.

Even after the doctors declared Dr. Mailafia dead, foreign consultants who were brought into the matter through Dr Mailafia's son that is  living abroad, had directed a family member who is a medical professional, with the wife of the CBN Deputy Governor, to mount pressure on the chest of Dr.  Mailafia for  resuscitation and thereafter place him on a life support.

The doctors in Gwagwalada refused all entreaties by the family members of Dr Mailafia to follow the advice of the foreign consultants, insisting that they have already pronounced him dead. Even when the wife could feel the pulse of her husband, the doctor flatly declared there was nothing they could do since they had already pronounced him dead.

While the above narration sums up the circumstances under which Dr Mailafia died,  we still  await the result of the actual cause of his death. As a nationalist and patriot that he was, Dr. Mailafia  was completely dedicated to the emancipation of ethnic nationalities from the clutches of oppression. The economist was never afraid to speak truth to power just as he remained committed to the enthronement of justice and equity to all citizens across ethnic and religious  divides.

In the twilight of his life, this consummate technocrat and global scholar of repute beamed his searchlight on the raging insecurity ravaging our country. He expressed regrets over government's incapacity to rein in the activities of insurgents and criminal groups terrorising the nation.

As a former presidential candidate in the 2019 poll, Dr Mailafia sought to deploy politics to bring about the dream he had for his country. Even after he lost the election, he never let down the bar in demanding for a fair treatment for all Nigerians.

The Forum recalls his patriotic zeal in standing up for truth and justice. He was never a letdown in being at the forefront of  showing the way for national greatness as he was willing to lay down his life for Nigeria.

The Forum is inspired by his altruistic disposition and contributions to national development. We remain proud of his footprints on the political, economic and social sands of our nation.

In this period of grief, we extend our sympathy to his immediate family members and pray to the Almighty God to grant each and everyone of them the fortitude to bear the pain of this irreparable loss.

The death of Dr Mailafia today represents a dark day for not only only the Middle Belt but also for all citizens  who yearn for a new dawn for justice in Nigeria.

White House defends Fauci from new attacks over China grants

White House defends Fauci from new attacks over China grants

Dr. Anthony Fauci

WASHINGTON — The White House said Thursday that it stood by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top medical adviser to President Biden, who has faced renewed attacks this week from conservatives over the extent to which the U.S. biomedical establishment funded potentially dangerous research into bat coronaviruses in Chinese laboratories.

Asked on Thursday by a Fox News reporter whether Fauci’s job was safe, despite new revelations, White House press secretary Jen Psaki responded curtly, with a single word: “Correct.”

Fauci has previously said that the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, of which he is the longtime head, did not allow Chinese laboratories to conduct gain-of-function research through American grants. Some people believe that such research, which boosts viruses in order to study their behavior, led to the creation of the pathogen known as SARS-CoV-2 at the Wuhan Institute of Virology or another laboratory sometime in late 2019.

The focus on Fauci this week is related to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request and published by the investigative news site the Intercept. The documents included details of a $3.1 million 2014 grant to EcoHealth Alliance, a New York-based organization that has been the focus of intense scrutiny over its close partnership with China and because of the ardent rejections by its chief executive, Peter Daszak, of any suggestion that a scientific accident there may have caused the pandemic.

EcoHealth Alliance used $599,000 of the $3.1 million grant to fund a study into bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which has itself been the focus of both conspiratorial and legitimate questions. Researchers there worked on a strain of coronavirus called WIV1, according to the Intercept.

Federal officials denied that the research conducted with U.S. funds in Wuhan met gain-of-function criteria. “NIH has never approved any research that would make a coronavirus more dangerous to humans,” an agency spokesperson told Yahoo News. “The research we supported in China, where coronaviruses are prevalent, sought to understand the behavior of coronaviruses circulating in bats that have the potential to cause widespread disease.”

The existence of WIV1 is hardly a secret, but the revelations in the Intercept’s reporting seem to challenge Fauci’s earlier statements that the U.S. biomedical establishment has never funded gain-of-function research in China. “This is a road map to the high-risk research that could have led to the current pandemic,” one researcher told the Intercept.

Still, there is no evidence that research into WIV1 led to the creation of SARS-CoV-2. Nor is there evidence that Fauci, who first gained renown in the 1980s during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, acted improperly or intentionally misrepresented U.S. partnerships.

Nevertheless, the Intercept revelations are sure to raise new questions, especially given signs that the pandemic may persist even into 2022. Peter Navarro, who served as a top aide of former President Donald Trump, often clashed with Fauci and, on Thursday, called the widely respected immunologist a “stone cold liar” on Twitter. “He belongs in an orange jumpsuit, not a lab coat,” Navarro opined.

Members of Congress, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., have lambasted Fauci and other scientists for misleading the public about the origins of the pandemic.

“These documents are a smoking gun that indicate he not only failed to be forthcoming, but that he also lied to the American people about his organization’s support for this risky research,” said Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wisc., who also called on Fauci to resign.

So did Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., a potential presidential candidate in 2024, who, like McCarthy, said that Fauci should “face a congressional inquiry.”

Should Republicans retake either chamber of Congress in next year’s elections, they are all but certain to launch such inquiries, given how much animosity Fauci has inspired among conservatives.

Our political leaders awaiting internal judgements from the masses

The problems in Nigeria are critical, and affecting all fields, not only doctors.

Ask the market women’s if they want to live in Nigeria if they have the opportunity to travel out of the country?

There is health care crisis in Nigeria, why can’t federal government not put 10billions of the Paris money to health care system in Nigeria to alleviate the problems we are facing right now?

In US, and other developed countries, it is the government that is indirectly financing the hospitals for patients to have quality healthcare treatments.

The issues on health care system is a national crisis, that can only be solved by the government that is ready to take up the challenges, and put the country in the right tracks.

If government did not put things in order, quality professionals will continue to leave Nigeria for better pastures.

If our leaders are sick in Nigeria, they will be running to overseas for treatment, and we have more than enough resources to put things in other in Nigeria. This is very unfortunate, that we are still at this level, where most leaders are thinking for their own pockets, and forget about the masses that they are ruling.

At time is coming in Nigeria, that there will no be a save place for political leaders in Nigeria, and the time is fast approaching, if nothing is done.

Unfortunately, l don’t think we have government at the federal level, who can put the country at the right tracks.

We have to realize that endurance as a limit, when the masses will fight back. The political leaders are going to see internal judgements from the masses, that the properties and the families will not be saved.

Watch out, the time is approaching very fast.

Osun Osogbo Festival: 7 died as Osun records more than six dozens Civid-19 cases in the last two weeks

Osun Osogbo Festival: 7 died as Osun records more than six dozens Civid-19 cases in the last two weeks

On Friday, the Osun State Government, in a statement by its Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, said seven persons had died of COVID-19 in the last two weeks, while 74 cases were recorded within the period.

Expressing concern over the nonchalant attitude of residents to safety protocols, Egbemode said it had become imperative for citizens to consciously take personal responsibility for their own safety because the third wave of the pandemic has berthed in the state.

According to the commissioner: “In the last two weeks, the state has recorded 74 cases with seven mortality. We can no longer afford to treat our protection with levity. We must wear masks religiously and avoid crowded spaces like a plague. It is becoming more obvious that our lives depend on how well we adhere to safety protocols.

“Osun’s daily coronavirus case tallies and mortality rate are becoming alarming. The effects of the virus keep getting worse by the day because our compliance level is deplorable and alarming. Our people need to take responsibility for their own safety, by ensuring that they take the COVID-19 test to be sure of their status, especially when they feel ill.

“Let us leave no chance for costly assumptions and be deliberate about boosting our immunity. Partying and appearances at densely-populated locations has become dangerous all over. We are back to ground zero with the virus, and we cannot continue to pretend like it doesn’t exist. The current statistics signal a precarious situation.”

Data available on the website of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Friday showed that 753 new confirmed cases and five deaths were recorded on August 12, 2021 in 14 states, namely Lagos (364), Akwa Ibom (141), Oyo (74), Rivers (46), Abia (38), Ogun (24), Kwara (20), Imo (19), FCT (12), Ekiti (10), Delta (nine), Edo (six), Plateau (five), and Bayelsa (one).

As if the country today, 180,661 cases have been confirmed and 2,200 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Benefits of Rabbit Meat to Sex Organ, Pregnancy and Body System

Rabbit meat remains one of the best meat you can think of. This is because of its high nutritional profile as it contains protein higher than that of beef and chicken. The human body needs a good amount of protein to work well.

This white meat has a low calorie and saturated fat content making it a balanced food for your health goals. It has a very sweet taste, sweeter than chicken and pork meat. But it is quite unfortunate that we don’t eat enough of this meat.

It will also interest you to know that there are no many bones in this meat as 80% of it is flesh with a lot of natural and nutritional benefits.

The nutritional profile of rabbit meat

A served rabbit meat of 100 grams contains;

33g (66%) protein

173 calories

Are You Still Taking Corn Pap (Akamu)? See What It Does To Your Body Each Time You Take It

Are You Still Taking Corn Pap (Akamu)? See What It Does To Your Body Each Time You Take It

Corn pap is a Nigerian fermented cereal pudding made from maize, also known as akamu, ogi, koko, or eko. This super light food has been around for decades now and a lot of people in Nigeria are eating it.

A study in 2018 on the Nutritional composition of pap found that pap is rich in essential properties, including carbohydrate, Vitamins [A, B5, B3, B1, riboflavin, C), folic acid, potassium, chromium, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, and magnesium. It also contained high contents of amino acids such as tryptophan, phenylalanine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, and valine. The calories in one serving of pap are 152.

Now, I know that daily a lot of people still take this meal called Pap. I will tell you in this article what pap does to your Body each Time you do. Read carefully now to see what pap is doing to your health:

1. Regulates Blood Pressure

Pap is an excellent source of potassium and contains zero sodium content, making it a good diet for people with high blood pressure and those who want to maintain stable blood pressure or prevent hypertension production. Another benefit of taking potassium-rich foods such as pap is that it helps to lessen the effects to sodium in your body while also relieving discomfort in your blood vessel walls, thereby protecting you from myriads of health problems that might have to sprout.

2. Lowers LDL Cholesterol

There are two primary forms of cholesterol in the body, low-density lipoprotein [LDL] and high-density lipoprotein [HDL], respectively. The former, LDL, is also considered to be 'poor' cholesterol since having excess cholesterol in your body will cause plaque to grow in your artery walls, making circulation a problem. It may also result in undue heart strain, and can even lead to high blood pressure, stroke, or heart attack.

On the positive side, pap contains a decent deal of chromium, zinc, magnesium, and some other active properties that help minimize the body's cholesterol levels of 'poor' LDLs.

In pap, chromium is found to be involved in lowering LDL cholesterol levels as well as inhibiting atherosclerotic plaque formation in the body. This same mineral is also linked to improved levels of blood sugar, reduced risk of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, reduced depression, increased levels of energy, increased regenerative capacity, to mention but a few. Again, pap's zinc and magnesium content are also considered great for lowering the body's LDL cholesterols, as they possess potent properties that are useful for this.

Having said that, some of the best ways to help raise your 'healthy' HDL cholesterols and lower your 'poor' LDL cholesterols include – moderate caloric intake, daily physical activity [exercise], reduced smoking, reduced sugar intake, and trans fats, to name just a few. Eating Nigerian foods with low cholesterol, too, will be perfect.

3. Highly beneficial for nursing mothers

Have you ever wondered why pap is one of the most popular nursing mom foods?

Pap contains a high amount of water and some other components which facilitate the adequate flow of breast milk for mothers who are lactating. It also helps to recover strength after having suffered from one disease or another, not forgetting that it is again an easy-to-digest food – a friend of the digestive system.

4. Good source of energy

Pap is an excellent source of carbohydrate, one of the nutrients on which your body strongly relies on adequate energy. Carbohydrate-rich foods such as pap not only provide the body with energy but also encourage mental sharpness and improve fat for energy metabolism.

5. Easy to digest

Pap is one of the easy to digest foods that we have around us. This helps the body to get rid of unnecessary contaminants and chemicals quickly by simply increasing the pace you urinate at. Another advantage of eating easily digestible food is that it puts less stress on the digestive system and is good for people recovering from illness. In addition to the above, people with digestive disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS), irritable bowel disease (IBD), or a sensitive stomach, may enjoy consuming easily digestible foods such as pap as they function on the digestive system quite carefully and seldom trigger issues.

6. Boosts the kidney’s health

The kidneys are among the body's most important organs, so any disruption that can cause adverse effects in the human system in this area. Many of the things that can destroy this vital organ are uric acid, urea, toxins, waste, and other hazardous substances. The great news, however, is that drinking pap can get rid of these substances because it helps remove harmful contaminants in the body by urine. If you're drinking pap you appear to urinate more.

7. Promotes healthy pregnancy and lowers the risk of neural tube defects

One of the main products pregnant women need to have a successful pregnancy is folic acid. This acid deficiency may contribute to the birth of underweight children, or may even cause neural tube defects in newborn babies. Pap is high in folic acid on the plus side making it a perfect and safe food for expectant mothers. Apart from that, you'll be surprised to learn that the same paper also encourages breast milk development after childbirth-what a healthy meal!

8. Akamu is good for babies and toddlers

Pap is one of the safe foods for children in Nigeria. In Nigeria, it's a common weaning meal introduced to infants. While being highly economical, simple to prepare and easy to digest, it is also very nutritious to growing children. Brown pap is the best form of baby pap. Brown pap consists of carbohydrate, millet, and guinea corn which provides some proteins, vitamins, and minerals that are very important to the growth and overall development of babies.

((((((Bottom Line))))))

Pap isn't like some people believe it to be a 'normal' food. But it is filled with many health benefits, including reduced risk of hypertension, improved digestion, sufficient breast milk flow, improved health of the kidneys, to name but a few.

The famous POISON that silently makes Africans widows or widowers is the MAGGI CUBE

The famous POISON that silently makes Africans widows or widowers is the MAGGI CUBE

Yes Maggi in your everyday Soup and foods is a killer worst than HIV/AIDS, Ebola, covid-19 all joined together.

Are you shocked? Then read on..

Firstly it was created in 1886 by a Swiss named  Julius Maggi for LOW INCOME workers and the POOR, who could not afford to balance their diet with meat and fish because they were very expensive to them.

In order to provide a TASTE of meat and fish to the poor, JULIUS MAGGI introduced the Maggi cube with its famous red and yellow label on the packaging.

In 1886, after the Berlin conference, colonial masters were free to export whatever they produced to their colonies mostly in Africa. This was how Julius Maggi thought that there would be lucrative market in Africa for his product.

So he exported and ingeniously launched his advertising there. It began to gain recognition and patronage in 1910.

Prior to the introduction of Maggi to Nigerians, the local locust bean called IRU in Yoruba, DADDAWA in Hausa and OGIRI okpe in igbo  mixed with cray fish or dried fish was the traditional means of adding FLAVOUR and DELICACY to the soup.

All these mixtures have  much medicinal benefits and may have contributed to the long life span and physical fitness enjoyed by our forefathers.

Maggi was not popular in Nigeria until in the early 1970s when it started spreading very fast in the market as neighbours and communities introduced it to one another.

The product succeeded because maggi cube could be kept longer at higher temperatures and with the possibility of giving a better taste to the cooking whenever used.

The Knorr, Royco, Dangote cubes..etc are different brands competing with Maggi even though people generally regard all of them as Maggi.

Africans began and continue to put it in every dish despite the danger inherent in it.

DID YOU KNOW that Maggi contains a high level of MSG (MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE)? extremely high level of lead nearly seven times above human body needs, transfats LDL, sodium all of which damage s the Brain cells and increases chances of stroke..etc.

Nigeria has continued to witness several brands of the product including the white Ajinomoto in the 1980s to 90s which medical experts condemned as capable of affecting the human liver.

Millions of Maggi cubes are sold and consumed every day in Africa so the company had to expand by creating eleven factories in the region despite warnings of public health risk associated with the products.

Women, mostly ladies add as many cubes to their cookings to the extent of the level of sweetness they want the soup to produce. In many homes, the preparing of "moi moi" (steamed bean paste) akara (fried bean paste), beans, boiling fish etc cannot go without Maggi nowadays. African foods have the highest test in the world.

However, lots of people based on medical advice have wisely abandoned Maggi and have been using the traditional "iru" or crayfish as alternatives.

"Consuming the Maggi cube in every cooking is akin to increasing cardiovascular risks including hypertension ,diabetes and stroke (cerebrovascular). The risk is higher particularly when one advances in age as it weakens the heart functions" -Dr Olúṣọlá Ajólore. 09-12-2020.

With high rate of Maggi consumption could develop erectile disfunction, persistent waist pain and rheumatism.(i.e. Dissolve six cubes in a 750ml of water, give he goat to drink and it can't mate for at least six months.)

Maggi has been identified as having greater negative consequences on human health than sugar. Unknown to many the product  is primarily the contributing factor in many cases of strokes in Africa because of its continuous mass consumption during the active ages.

Take a little dive at Google or YouTube and find out the hazards of Maggi seasoning cube for yourself and spread the message to SAVE AFRICANS.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF ADEYINKA DANIEL, 200 LEVEL STUDENT OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AKURE

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF ADEYINKA DANIEL, 200 LEVEL STUDENT OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AKURE

The Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA expresses deep sadness at the demise of one of its students, Adeyinka Daniel, 200 level, Software Engineering, in the early hours of August 3, 2021 following an automobile incident along Oyemekun Road Akure. We commiserate and identify with family , friends and fellow students of the deceased on this very painful loss of a promising student.
The university is particularly saddened by the circumstances leading to his death.

From available information the deceased student along with others were involved in an accident outside the campus around 10 PM on August 2, 2021. They were first taken to a private hospital where doctors battled to save their lives. Four of the students were stabilized but Daniel’s condition remained critical. When the condition of the student deteriorated the doctor at the Private Hospital referred him to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo for expert intervention.

At that time the parents of the student and some relations had joined him at the Private Hospital and it was decided, because of time factor, to bring him to the University Health Centre. The deceased student was brought to the University Health Centre at 3.20 AM and the doctor on duty promptly attended to the student in the car of the parents. According to him, all resuscitative efforts proved abortive; there was no cardiac activity and response to any stimuli. And by 3.40 AM he declared that he was brought in clinically dead. The doctor offered to take the boy to the morgue with the University Ambulance but the parents declined electing to take him home ostensibly for burial.

The Medical report from the Private Hospital which was brought along with him indicates that the student was clinically non responsive by 1.30 AM well before they got to the University Health Centre at 3.20 AM.

The death is unfortunate and regrettable.

The University has ordered an immediate review of the incident in order to ascertain the circumstances leading to it .
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased student. The University is also monitoring the state of treatment of the other students who were also involved in the unfortunate accident.

We pray that the Almighty God will grant the family and friends of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Health Education: Kill a cockroach today

Health Education: Kill a cockroach today

*Cockroaches*

Can survive a week without its head.

Can survive 2weeks without water.

Can survive one month without food

Can live in your house for 3½years (maximum life span) without been detected!!

Defecates on human food.

Can trigger severe asthma attack.

Spreads bacteria that can cause food poisoning and typhoid.

A cockroach can kill you.

If you don’t kill it first.

These things are capable of the worst things you can imagine.

They eat almost anything even fellow insects. Hair, books, sweets, meat anything- they will eat.

They are attracted to human food.

They vomit on the food.

They defecate on the food.

Absolutely disgusting animals.

Some young cockroaches have been documented to crawl over sleeping human beings and crawl inside the ears, noses, and even open mouths.

So if you have cockroaches in your house and you sleep sometimes with your mouth open and drooling, a cockroach can scroll in for a kiss.😔

Cockroaches have been known to spread at least 33 kinds of bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella, six parasitic worms and more than seven other types of human pathogens.

E. coli and Salmonella for example are classic causes of serious food poisoning, typhoid and diarrhea.

So what to do?

Prevent the environment that helps them thrive. That’s the main answer.

Keep your cupboards, sinks, tables and floors clean and free of dirty plates, unused utensils and old newspapers.

Clean your dishes, food crumbs and oil spills right away once you cook.

*Always store your food in airtight containers, and never leave your food out (even if it is pet food!).*

*Storing up food in nylon bags and sacks like garri and rice is NOT the best for you. These idiots can eat through the sack and ruin that food for you.*

*Don’t risk it at all.*

Seal cracks and gaps in walls, floors and openings around or inside cabinets.

Also make sure that you seal gaps around pipes, plumbing, wall outlets, and spaces under the doors to your house and kitchen.

From time to time, run hot water in spare bathrooms and little used sinks.

Always check your bag and your children's school bags when they return home, as well as your shopping items before storing them.

If despite all these measures, you still have a cockroach problem at home, contact a pest professional for assistance with elimination and prevention.

Smack with a broom.

Squash with slippers.

Boil in hot water.

Spray with an insecticide.

Kill with a gun.😂😂

Use whatever means you can.

But don’t ever ignore.

One cockroach can produce up to 1,000 new ones in a year to torment your life.

Kill cockroaches now

Before they kill you.

So ladies and gentlemen.

Do the world a favour:

Kill a cockroach today.

When you go to your friends house, as a show of goodwill, kill a cockroach.

When you go to your partner’s house, as a show of love, kill a cockroach.

Wherever you go, and you find one-

kill it. Just do it.

OGUN COVID-19 RESPONSE: PRESS RELEASE ON DELTA VARIANT OF SARS COV-2

OGUN COVID-19 RESPONSE: PRESS RELEASE ON DELTA VARIANT OF SARS COV-2

The Federal Ministry of Health through the Nigeria Centre Disease Control (NCDC) has recently alerted the country of the confirmation of the virulent Delta variant of SARS Cov-2 in the country.

The Delta variant is recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a variant of concern, given its increased transmissibility. It has been detected in over 90 countries and is expected to spread to more countries. It has also been linked to a surge in cases in countries where it is the dominant strain in circulation.

NCDC has also announced increase in the number of cases being recorded in the country in the last one week. Over 120 cases daily were recorded by NCDC in the last 48 hours as opposed to less than 50 before now. Over 60% of these are from neighboring states such as Lagos.

Ogun State has experienced a gradual rise in cases with 15 new cases in the last two weeks compared to two cases in the whole month of June 2021 while four persons are currently being managed in the isolation Centre that have been empty in the last one month. Also we have recorded two new deaths in the last three weeks.

Given that our many lands cross one another, and the fact that eight of our local government areas (LGAs) share boarder with Lagos State with a major international airport and the highly mobile community between them, it becomes pertinent to proactively curtail the spread of COVID-19 virus among our people.

While NCDC is currently working frantically to ensure surveillance of the variants in the country, Ogun State Government is re-energizing her response team at State and LGA level for prompt and effective response. Risk communication is being embarked upon at community level through the LGA rapid response team.  We are working with the Federal Port Health Authority to ensure passengers are screened at the land crossings in the State.  Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) focal persons in our health facilities have been alerted to step up IPC measures while we have deployed Rapid test Kits to major secondary and tertiary Health facilities to test patients who are to undergo surgeries, patients with symptoms suggestive of COVID 19 and persons who want to know their status.

We are also embarking on mobilization for test at our five-high burdened LGAs (Abeokuta South, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ikenne, Obafemi Owode and Sagamu).

We urge all Ogun State residents to ensure strict adherence to public health and social measures in place.

Proven public health and social measures such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and proper use of face masks, prevent infections and save lives.

We enjoin our community leaders, religious leaders, media houses and other stake holders to join hands with the State Government to encourage strict compliance to proper hand washing. Regular and correct use of face mask, two meters physical distancing in public places and avoid crowded gatherings.

Let me also use this forum to encourage our people to avail themselves of the opportunity of getting vaccinated for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective and offers protection against the disease.

The Ogun State Ministry of Health is monitoring the trend and shall continue to update our esteemed residents from time to time.

COVID-19: Cuban made Vaccine 'Abdala' in circulation (+Photos)

The anti-COVID candidate vaccine (CIGB-66) made by the Cuban  scientists is being distributed in the country’s provinces where intervention trials began this week, according to various reports.

According to a report, Workers at Emcomed, Cuba’s state enterprise medical supplier, are responsible for distributing the Abdala candidate vaccine (CIGB-66) to several of the country’s provinces, where intervention trials began yesterday.

As reported on Twitter by the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Enterprise Group (BioCubaFarma), doses of the vaccine developed by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center in Havana, have been delivered to pharmaceutical distributors in Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Holguín.

BioCubaFarma CEO, Eduardo Martínez Díaz, tweeted a message reporting that more than 29,000 doses of the Cuban candidate vaccine Abdala are in storage in Pinar del Río, ready for distribution to 26 vaccination centers there, while in Artemisa, preparations are underway to deliver needed doses to vaccination sites in neighborhood participating in the intervention.

The newspaper Victoria on the Isle of Youth, also reported the arrival of the immunogen, and according to Dr. Victor Doeste Hernandez, coordinator of the municipal commission for the intervention in which a total of 48,664 individuals will participate.

In the capital, this candidate vaccine will be administered in the municipalities of San Miguel del Padrón, La Habana del Este, Guanabacoa and Regla.

While, more than 19,000 at risk subjects, including medical and paramedical personnel and medical students who have been on the front lines battling the pandemic for more than a year, will be vaccinated in Ciego de Avila with Abdala, a process which began yesterday in that province.

In Holguin, where the intervention will include more 49,660 residents, administration of Abdala has begun among health workers.

Paraphrasing José Martí, it is clear that, in the powerful, robust arms of the homeland’s children, Abdala is being brandished like a mighty sword, because in Cuba, as we defend ourselves and advance, there is nothing more important than life.

Paraphrasing José Martí, it is clear that, in the powerful, robust arms of the homeland’s children, Abdala is being brandished like a mighty sword, because in Cuba, as we defend ourselves and advance, there is nothing more important than life.

Oxford researchers: Risk of rare blood clotting HIGHER for Covid-19 than for VACCINES

Researchers at the University of Oxford say Covid-19 leads to a risk of rare blood clots that's several-times higher than that of current vaccines, amid concerns that the jabs may be to blame for the potentially deadly condition.

The report released on Thursday says the risk of the rare condition known as cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) following Covid-19 infection is “around 100 times greater than normal” and “several times higher” than it is post-vaccination or after flu.

Researchers looked at health records of 500,000 Covid-19 patients to estimate the absolute incidence of CVT in the two weeks following Covid-19 diagnosis, flu, or vaccination against coronavirus. They found that clotting is around eight times more likely to occur after contracting Covid-19 than after immunization with the AZ-Oxford Covid-19 vaccine. Compared to the vaccines made by Pfizer or Moderna, the risk of a CVT from Covid-19 is about 10 times greater.

The researchers, however, call for a cautious interpretation of the comparisons since data is still coming in.

“There are concerns about possible associations between vaccines, and CVT, causing governments and regulators to restrict the use of certain vaccines. Yet, one key question remained unknown: ‘What is the risk of CVT following a diagnosis of Covid-19?’” says Professor of Psychiatry and Head of the Translational Neurobiology Group at the University of Oxford Paul Harrison.

Some countries have restricted the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine – which was renamed Vaxzevria – to certain age groups after the European Medicines Agency confirmed the vaccine’s possible links to cases of blood clotting, several of which were fatal. Denmark halted the use of the jab altogether.

Meanwhile, another EMA-approved vaccine, Johnson & Johnson's, is being investigated in the US and Europe following cases of blood clotting and at least one death.

Both vaccines are based on a similar method, known as adenoviral vectors. Regulators and researchers are working to find out whether the incidences of blood clotting are caused by an immune response to the adenovirus vaccines.

Nigerians Storm Buhari’s Residence In UK, Demand his return home (PHOTOS)

As the momentum in London against the Nigerian President Major General Muhammadu Buhari isn't waning anymore, Nigerians in the United Kingdoms will converge on Abuja House Saturday, starting from 12 Noon in Protest against what is termed the irresponsible conduct of Nigeria's leader who is currently in London for his usual medical 'CHECK UP'

Nigerian citizens in London are "OBEYING NIGERIANS' CALL" attempting to send back Mr. Buhari from London Hospital to the ABUJA'S world class Hospital he commissioned in his dreams.

The Proteste is asking Buhari about the Aso Rock villa Hospital that couldn't boast of PARACETAMOL, the Doctors he is owing salaries and now on strike?

Among those that have arrived for the protest on Friday in the UK camped outside Muhammadu Buhari’s Wellington Hospital location of annual medical check-up with #BuhariMustGo Posters. No rest for the wicked!

BUHARI, You are not fit to reap from where you FAILED to sow. Go back to Nigeria for your treatments and stop WASTING OUR NATIONAL MONEY ON YOUR PERSONAL ISSUES. #BuhariMustGo

Buhari led APC government in Nigeria has failed to deliver on its Electoral promises as the regime becomes lawless without regards for the rules of law and fundamental rights of the citizens to freedom of speech and protests. Many protesters were killed in Lagos, Osun, Oyo states and many other places across the country during the Endsar protest which the Government concealed.

Unemployment and Insecurity are at the highest level under this anti-people regime as the leadership preferred negotiating with terrorists and bandits rather than addressing the critical demands that will alleviate majority and Youths from poverty.

Aging starts from the feet upwards !KEEP YOUR LEGS STRONG !!

Aging starts from the feet upwards !KEEP YOUR LEGS STRONG !!

▪️When we are old, our feet must always remain strong.

▪️When we gain ageing / grow aged, we should not be afraid of our hair turning grey (or) skin sagging (or) wrinkles.

▪️Among the signs of *longevity*, as summarized by the US Magazine "Prevention", strong leg muscles are listed on the top, as the most important and essential one.

▪️If you do not move your legs for two weeks, your leg strength will decrease by 10 years.

▪️A study from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found that both old and young, during the two weeks of *inactivity*, the legs muscle strength can weakened by a third which is equivalent to 20-30 years of ageing.

▪️As our leg muscles weaken, it will take a long time to recover, even if we do rehabilitation and exercises, later.

▪️Therefore, *regular exercise like walking, is very important*.

▪️The whole body weight/load remains and rest on the legs.

▪️The foot is a kind of *pillars*, bearing the weight of the human body.

▪️Interestingly, 50% of a person's bones and 50% of the muscles, are in the two legs.

▪️The largest and strongest joints and bones of the human body are also in the legs.

▪️"Strong bones, strong muscles, and flexible joints form the "Iron Triangle" that carries the most important load on the human body."

▪️70% of human activity and burning of energy in one's life is done by the two feet.

▪️Do you know this? When a person is young, his *thighs have enough strengths, to lift a small car!*

▪️The *foot is the center of body locomotion*.

▪️Both the legs together have 50% of the nerves of the human body, 50% of the blood vessels and 50% of the blood flowing through them.

▪️It is the large circulatory network that connects the body.

▪️Only *when the feet are healthy then the convention current of blood flows, smoothly, so people who have strong leg muscles will definitely have a _strong heart_*.

▪️*Aging starts from the feet upwards*.

▪️As a person gets older, the accuracy and speed of transmission of instructions between the brain and the legs decreases, unlike when a person is young.

▪️In addition, the so-called Bone Fertilizer Calcium will sooner or later be lost with the passage of time, making the elderly more prone to bone fractures.

▪️Bone fractures in the elderly can easily trigger a series of complications, especially fatal diseases such as brain thrombosis.

▪️Do you know that 15% of elderly patients will die within a year of a thigh-bone fracture.

▪️Exercising the legs, is never too late, even after the age of 60 years.

▪️Although our feet/legs will gradually age with time, exercising our feet/legs is a life-long task.

▪️Only by strengthening the legs, one can prevent further aging.

▪️Please walk for at least 30-40 minutes daily to ensure that your legs receive sufficient exercise and to ensure that your leg muscles remain healthy.
