An Open letter to President Bola Tinubu by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, on the State of the Nation

An Open letter to President Bola Tinubu by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, on the State of the Nation

Your Excellency,I bring you good tidings from the more than 65 million Yoruba of South-West in Nigeria, including Edo, Delta, Kwara and Kogi States.

I also write this letter to you as one of the more than 200 million people God created as Nigerians.

We have no regret that we were created to inhabit this geographical space in the West African axis of the African continent.

In fact, we are happy to be here because I don’t know any country in the world that God has blessed, in terms of natural and human resources, like Nigeria.

Obviously, past leaders, since 1960, disappointed Nigerians with the way ‘Nigeria and Nigerians were badly led and resources selfishly managed’.

When you came with the ‘Emilokan’ coinage in the build up to the 2023 elections, many Nigerians were persuaded that as a democrat exposed to modern way of governance, you will perform better than Muhammadu Buhari, a soldier who deepened the poverty levels of Nigerians and increased insecurity from 2015 to 2023.

Today, events have proved that they were wrong.

Mr.President, to say the truth without minding whose ox is gored, you have really disappointed many Nigerians who thought you were the messiah they were waiting for.

The facts are there to speak for themselves.

On May 29, 2023 when you became the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigerians, the price of a litre of fuel was less then N200.

Today, it is more than N1000.

As the Minister of Petroleum, I ask you, what type of reforms is this?

In May 2023, Naira to a Dollar was less than N740.

Now, your two right-hand men when you were Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, Wale Edun (Finance Minister) and Yemi Cardoso (CBN Governor) are in charge of the economy.

What exactly are the fiscal, economic and financial briefings they give you daily to convince you that they know what they are doing in those two offices?

When Buhari left on May 29, 2023, many Nigerians heaved a sigh of relief that insecurity would soon become history.

Pitiably today, from the North to the South, East to the West, the rate at which Nigerians are being abducted and some killed, even after ransom was paid, it was as if these blood-thirsty maniacs have just been unleashed on Nigerians from the hottest part of hell.

As the Commander-in-Chief,the rising spate of insecurity across the country has put to question the kind of briefings you get on daily basis, especially, from the Inspector- General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, the Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, and other Security Chiefs on their modus operandi to send these killers to where they belong?

In August, many Nigerians came out to express their frustration on the way you are governing them.

Today, some of those arrested have been charged with treason.

In the Comity of Nations, who does that? Is that the way governments are overthrown, with placards?

Human rights activists are being harassed by security agents on a daily basis and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have become soft targets of sycophants who speak sweet words to your ears for selfish reasons.

Many Nigerians know the ‘radical’ role you played when you were Governor, and even after 2007, when you galvanised and mobilised them to challenge the status quo at the national level.

Now that you are in government, protest has suddenly become a criminal offence.God is indeed Great!!!

The plain truth is that the

recent fuel price increase by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), an agency which is under your office as the Petroleum Minister, is an attack on Nigerians.

Obviously, your administration is becoming indifferent, insensitive and unresponsive to the plights of millions of Nigerians who can no longer meet their daily needs.

This is a brutal assault on the sensibility of Nigerians.

I think you and your party should be sensitive to the plights of Nigerians.

Mr.President, don’t you think the wicked and draconian increase in fuel price, especially, at this time that Nigerians have been pushed to the wall, is a huge recipe for crisis?

Nigerians can no longer bear this economic hardship any longer.

I am writing this letter to you because of the pressure I am going through from millions of Nigerians, who erroneously, believe that I don’t want to tell you the truth because the two of us are eminent Yoruba citizens.

The truth is that the perverted, opaque, unintelligible, wicked and corrupt handling of the petroleum sector and continuous increase of fuel price under your administration (with the NNPC threatening us the price will still go up) without due regard to the laws of the land and wellbeing of Nigerians is akin to telling Nigerians to go to hell.

Mr.President, if a few of your advisers are telling you that all is well, I can confidently inform you that they are your enemies.

Former President Buhari was here and Nigerians proved to him that they were bigger than him.

If you don’t reverse this ugly trend immediately, soon, the situation may trigger further hardship across the country.

Under your watch as the President, the APC-led administration has consistently shown itself to be anti-people, unconcerned and deaf to the agonies of millions of Nigerians.

Today, more than 75 per cent of Nigerians have sunk below the poverty line. Businesses are collapsing like a badly-arranged pack of cards and the centre can no longer hold in many households.

With over 32 per cent inflation rate and close to 40 per cent unemployment rate which are expected to rise further with the latest dictatorial increase in fuel price, it is obvious that your administration offers no hope to Nigerians.

In the past 16 months, your administration has been using propaganda, power of coercion and rough tactics to oppress Nigerians.

For how long do you honestly think that despotic strategy will last?

Since last year, you have visited many countries, the latest being China.

Do you think your foreign counterparts treat their citizens the way you are treating Nigerians?

Mr.President, remember your promises to Nigerians during your numerous campaigns to all the nooks and crannies of this great country?

In just 16 months into your administration, your campaign promises have suddenly become failed promises?

Your Excellency, do you remember an Austrian-German who became the Commander-in-Chief in Germany in 1933?

Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who was the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945?

Hitler, an elected democrat,

quickly transformed a democratic republic into a constitutional dictatorship.

The Fuhrer vowed to destroy democracy through the democratic process. And he did with the destruction of Germany in 1945.

Before the destruction,

the Nazi leader disabled, then dismantled the Weimar Republic.

The Fuhrer crushed political opposition, destroyed the economy and ultimately undermined Germany’s democratic structures.

When Hitler became history on April 30, 1945, Germany was in total ruins.

But due to the determination of Germans, today, that country has the biggest economy in Europe.

I hope I am wrong but I see a linkage between what happened during the ascendancy of Hitler into power and what is happening in Nigeria today.

Anyway, Nigeria is bigger than any individual.

Mr President, the time is ticking.

Ask this simple question: Are my reforms working?

I come in peace.

LP Crisis: Peter Obi, Otti Write INEC for Validation of Senator Nenadi Led 29-member Caretaker Committee

LP Crisis: Peter Obi, Otti Write INEC for Validation of Senator Nenadi Led 29-member Caretaker Committee

The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the last general election, Mr. Peter Obi, and Governor of Abia State, Mr. Alex Otti, have written to the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to notify the regulatory body of the setting up of a 29-member caretaker committee to organise the party ‘s congresses and national convention within a period not exceeding 180 days.

The letter, dated September 6, 2024, and signed by Obi and Otti, also informed the INEC chairman of the leadership crisis in the party.

The letter formally unveiled the names of the 29-member caretaker committee.

In the letter, Obi and Otti, who convened the September 4 expanded stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where the committee was set up, stated, “You will recall that Labour Party had had a leadership crisis in recent times culminating in the de-recognition of the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) by INEC effective June 2024. This is sequel to the settlement brokered by INEC on June 27, 2022.”

The letter said the settlement was founded on the consent court judgement by Justice Gabriel Kolawole on March 20, 2018.

“A major part of the settlement states that an all-inclusive national convention, preceded by ward, local government and state congresses shall be convened not later than one year after signing the terms of settlement,” the letter said.

It added that because of the 2023 general election, the implementation of the agreement was deferred by one year to 2024.

Obi and Otti stated in the letter, “By March 2024, the Abure-led NWC organised a convention at Nnewi without first organising ward, local government and state congresses. This fell short of the standards and the spirit of the terms of settlement as stated above. In the light of all these, a leadership vacuum arose in the party. In like manner, the National Executive Committee membership got depleted leaving less than 10 members standing.”

The letter explained, “Given the above scenario, the statutory executives of the party made up of the governor, deputy governor, and legislators, in addition to all surviving members of NEC, the leadership of organised labour, representatives of governorship candidates in the 2023 election and subsequent ones, presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2023 election and other party leaders, met in Umuahia, Abia State, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 and set up a caretaker committee to organise congresses and the national convention within a period not exceeding 180 days to fill the vacuum created by the expiration of the tenure of the erstwhile leadership of the party at all levels.”

Obi and Otti also informed the INEC chairman that Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha were appointed by the stakeholders’ meeting as Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of the party’s caretaker committee.

The letter also listed other members of the committee representing critical stakeholders of the party.

They included representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Comrade Chris Uyot.

According to the letter, the senate is being represented by Senators Victor Umeh, Neda Imasuen, and Ireti Kingibe, while the House of Representatives is represented by Hon. Afam Ogene, Hon. Seyi Sowunmi, Hon. Sunday Umeha, Hon. Donatus Matthew, and Hon. Esosa Iyawe

The former governorship candidates of the party were represented by Ken Pela (Delta), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (Lagos), Jonathan Asake (Kaduna), and Edward Pwajok (Plateau).

The members of the state Houses of Assembly in  the caretaker committee included Hon. Edosa Richard, Hon. Harrison Oghara, Hon. Augustine Okezie, and  Hon. Clinton Amadi

Representatives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the committee were Mohammed Misau, Austin Jonah, and Sansa Omalara.

According to the letter, the other members of the caretaker committee are Edwin Bafte Sajo, Nike Oshola, Aishat Madijiem, Ugoeze Caroline Onwubiko, and Dominic Essien.

2027: Senator Nnenadi Usman led caretaker committee, a good step for LP Rebirth in Nigeria — Oyo State Stakeholders

2027: Senator Nnenadi Usman led caretaker committee, a good step for LP Rebirth in Nigeria — Oyo State Stakeholders

Nnenadi

The concerned Labour Party stakeholders in Oyo state has said Senator Nnenadi led caretaker committee is a right step in right direction for the party, going forward to 2027.

The stakeholders also called for caretaker committees for the party across the states of the federation.

The recent NEC/Expanded Stakeholders meeting conveyed by Governor Alex Otti of Abia state which also has in attendance Mr. Peter Obi, national assembly members, NLC, TUC Representatives and NTC leadership and other stakeholders successfully appointed a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the Labour Party in Nigeria and to organize a national convention in the near future.

The concerned stakeholders in Oyo state called it a welcome development.

According to a statement signed by Comrade Dele Abiola on behalf of the concerned stakeholders said the installation of a rescue caretaker committee for the Labour Party is long overdue.

"It is still not too late prepare the party and even make it more viable and strong ahead of 2027 general elections"

"Nigerians need alternative political platforms to APC and PDP and Labour party has filled this vacuum. It's our collective responsibility to propell the party upto the expectations of the masses"

"We extolled the decisive roles play by His Excellencies, Mr Peter Obi, Alex Otti and other stakeholders in rescuing the party from self-centered individuals holding the party into ransom" the statement said.

The newly formed LP National Caretaker Committee is chaired by Senator Nnenadi Usman while Senator Darlington Nwokeocha is serving as Secretary.

The extended stakeholders of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia state constituted a 29-member national caretaker committee to be headed by a former Minister of State for Finance, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, to run the affairs of the party for three months leading to its national conventions

Other members of the committee were drawn from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), including former governors and members of both State and National Assemblies.

It should be noted that in Oyo state, LP stakeholders had in a meeting in Oyo town passed a vote of no confidence on the now Dissolved state exco calling on the transition committee to oversee an installation of a caretaker exco for the party in the state.

COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE EMERGENCY NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

MEETING OF THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS (NLC) HELD ON

 TUESDAY,THE 20TH OF AUGUST,2024*

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)convened an emergency meeting to deliberate on the recent developments surrounding the invitation of the President of the Congress,Comrade Joe Ajaero,by the Nigeria Police Force. This invitation is premised on a clearly unfounded and politically motivated investigation into alleged terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversio, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

The NEC notes with grave concern that rather than extending the apology demanded by the Congress for the earlier invasion of its national headquarters by security agencies, the Nigeria Police has chosen to embark on this spurious and fortuitous journey of intimidation, harassment, and witch-hunting. This is nothing but a travesty and a blatant attempt to stifle the voice of the working people and their leadership, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the International Labour Organization (ILO)Conventions 87 and 98.

In light of this, the NEC of the NLC resolves as follows:

We Shall Honour the Invitation: As a responsible labour centre committed to the rule of law and due process, the NLC shall honour the invitation extended to its President by the Nigeria Police but will demand for extension of time given the nature of the invitation. However, we wish to state unequivocally that this does not in any way legitimize the baseless allegations levelled against him.

Condemnation of the State's Actions: The NEC strongly condemns the continued harassment of the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and other Labour leaders. We view this as a calculated attempt to weaken and destabilize the labour movement, which has always stood as a bastion of democratic principles and the voice of the Nigerian masses.

Call for the State to Desist: The NEC warns the state to desist from its evil intentions and stop the ongoing witch-hunt against the leaders of the Congress forthwith. The Congress will not sit idy by while the rights and freedoms of its members and leaders are trampled upon with impunity by the State.

The NEC directs all affiliates and state councils to immediately commence the process of mobilizing their members across the nation. The Congress will not hesitate to take all necessary actions, including mass protests and industrial actions, to protect the integrity and independence of the labour movement. If anything happens to the President of the Congress or any other leader of the Congress in furtherance of these tendentious allegations by the State; NEC puts all its affiliates and state councils to proceed on indefinite nationwide strike action by 12:00 Midnight today.

The NEC calls on all civil society allies and the general populace to stand in solidarity with the Nigeria Labour Congress in this critical moment. The fight against injustice and oppression is a collective one, and we urge all Nigerians to rise in defense of our shared democratic values.

The Nigeria Labour Congress remains resolute in its commitment to defending the rights and interests of workers and the Nigerian people. We shall not be cowed or intimidated by these desperate attempts to silence us. We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved country.

Planned Nationwide Citizens' Mass Protests achieved its Purpose before Commencement

....... Government must now move Swiftly and Sincerely to Engage Protesters and Implement Emergency Promises Made to Citizens

....... If Government Acts, Protesters Bound to Review Protest Plan and Time Frame

The Leadership of the organised Civil Society under the umbrella of United Action Front of Civil Society, UAFCS, rising from a major assessment meeting of its Situation Room in the early hours of today, August 1st is compelled to urgently make some interventions on the nationwide citizens' mass protests on hunger in Nigeria following the plea by the lead  Solicitor of the initiators of the Nationwide Citizens' Protest, Mr Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN that the plan for the protest should be reviewed since it has already achieved its essential purpose before commencement

Our profound X-ray of the nationwide protests vis a vis the strong appeal by the lawyer of the organisers and the emergency responses of government to the planned protests at our situation room this morning essentially agrees with the submission of Mr Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN that with the sharp responses to the nationwide citizens' protests by various levels of government nationwide coupled with the numerous promises and panicky steps taken by government at all levels as well government frantic appeals to citizens for time and restraint, the protest in our sincere view has already achieved fifty percent of its purpose.

However, the concern of most leaders of the organised Civil Society is the long-standing history of government treachery and unreliability as touching its promises to citizens and peoples of Nigeria. This trust deficit between government and citizens in Nigeria is self inflicted by government officials notorious for abandoning and ditching promises and commitments made to the people without scruples or batting an eye lid, which is why the organisers of this protest would like to stay out on the streets of Nigeria until government yields to their demands and starts implementing them

Therefore, in the light of this grave concern about the reputation of government that we call on the Federal Government and Government at all other levels of Nigeria that if they are indeed serious and sincere about their various promises and pleas towards averting the Citizens' Action, to immediately identify, invite and engage leaders and organisers of the nationwide mass protests to negotiate citizens demands and the implementation of agreements reached during the negotiations so as to enable Protesters reduce the days of the nationwide protests as requested by Mr Ebun Adegboruwa SAN.

For us, the ball is purely in the court of government to expend more time and energies in engaging and interfacing with the initiators and leaders of the protests rather than those being recruited to oppose it. We hope that government, just as the Inspector General of Police did two days ago, will immediately take up the brace to engage Protesters and negotiate the country out of the brewing national crisis rather than recruiting pro government, anti protest forces to make the citizens peaceful protests violent and riotous.

The Looming Protest: Joe Igbokwe, Bayo Onanuga And The Age Of Unreason

The Looming Protest: Joe Igbokwe, Bayo Onanuga And The Age Of Unreason

The two individuals that no longer surprise me at all are Citizens Joe Igbokwe and Bayo Onanuga, however in the present instance I wonder what sycophancy and court-jesting have done to their ability to discern the times and by jove incline their hearts to wisdom, apologies to the Holy Book.

Joe Igbokwe in the service of his master decided perhaps without deep research to do the greatest disservice to the present watch. In threatening the Igbo in Lagos and across the Country, Citizen Joe Igbokwe has forgotten that hunger and poverty are indiscriminate of Region, Religion and ethnicity. He has forgotten that unemployment and want are indiscriminate of Creed and Clan. And he has forgotten that playing the ethnic card ala threatening a Tribe in the face of pain, penury and poverty is but an invitation to anarchy. He has forgotten that he who is down needs fear no fall.

Citizen Bayo Onanuga is himself caught by a disease I would call Obi-neurosis, a fear I would call Obi-Phobia, and a complex that fixates him to everything and anything Peter Obi, and the Obidient Movement. I pity him.

The two citizens here mentioned and their fellow travelers in the path of infamy are obsessed with the spoils of power that they cannot see. They are blinded by filthy lucre that they cannot read the times, and their soul is sold to Mammon such that they cannot perceive the ominous tide that romances our space.

They are without an ounce of equivocation Pseudo-Progressives swimming against a deluge. Joe Igbokwe can threaten the Igbo for all he cares. Bayo Onanuga can accuse Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement for all he cares, one infallible fact is that the clock is ticking, that time is running out, and like Kenyans the Gen Zee generation are tired, and have elected to trounce the tranquilizing drug of gradualism choosing proactive action over siddon look.

The Looming Protest has nothing to do with Ethnicity, Region or Religion, deceive yourself for all you care, the Truth is before us. The Looming Protest has nothing to do with Peter Obi or the Obidient Movement, lie to yourselves for all you care, the Truth is lucid. Continue to make matters worse for Tinubu with your sycophancy, continue to gaslight the gullible, and continue to delude and denude the hapless. Truth is that Nigeria is at the precipice and that our Country is hanging dangerously at the tipping edge.

Rather than advise their Master to work the path of caution, discretion and propriety, they sing his praises and nudge him further down the path to Golgotha. They see no wrong in wanton profligacy and wanderlust. They see no wrong in a Presidency that pours out 100m US Dollars for a new Presidential Jet in the face of harrowing poverty. They see no wrong in the spate of job loss and inflation. They see no wrong in the scarcity of food, the hike in price of Fuel, and the suicidal hunger that confronts the Nigerian hoi polloi. All they do is hail their Master as though he is infallible. All they do is blame Buhari as if their Master didn't promise to continue with Buhari's policies that saw Nigeria going in out of inflation, today Nigeria is enmeshed in the worst inflation in our history. Seeing the glaring comeuppance of failure, seeing that the Young are gearing up to challenge for the soul of our nation, Joe Igbokwe, Bayo Onanuga and their cohorts in the cult of Court-jesting are busy shifting the blame, are busy gaslighting the ignorant, and are busy throwing darts at the innocent, but it won't work.

It was Frantz Fanon who said long time ago that every generation out of relative obscurity discovers it's mission, Fulfills or betrays it. If the Gen Zee across Africa have risen, to ethnicise this rising is like pouring water on the Crocodile, I pray Joe Igbokwe, Bayo Onanuga and Co knows this. If the Gen Zee is planning the Nigerian version of the Kenyan uprising, the right thing to do is to begin quickly to address their grievances and proceed with some immediate Reforms and not to threaten, insult, over-awe, harass and harangue them.

I must close this effort with the ageless lines of John F. Kennedy to wit, those who make peaceful change impossible, make violent change inevitable. The Truth is that those threatening the Young people hatching and planning a peaceful protest for the soul of Nigeria come August 1st to August 10th, 2024 are the enemies of democracy, enemies of the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, and the enemies of Nigeria QED. And Nigeria shall most definitely outlive them.

I believe in Nigeria. I believe that the Eagle shall yet Soar. And I believe that this period of darkness shall yet pass.

Corruption & 2027: Do Nigerians really have a choice in APC & PDP? – Uzoma Ahamefule

Corruption & 2027: Do Nigerians really have a choice in APC & PDP? – Uzoma Ahamefule

The choice Nigerians have to make between PDP and APC unfortunately is like an option given to a captive by abductors to choose how to be killed, whether by a slow means of being thrown into a cold room till the person’s last breath, or a fast one of being locked up in a room that is ignited to flame till the person burns to ashes. Whichever choice it is, it is tantamount to the same cruelty and excruciating death. That is the exact picture PDP and APC depict in the lives of Nigerians. In a nutshell, for the Nigerian masses APC and PDP represent corruption, failure, sorrow and agony.

The high level of corruption experienced under APC and PDP in Nigeria is unimaginable and it has crippled every business and activity and killed the economy. Members of these two parties have not only supervised corruption to its optimal level but have also engraved it into Nigeria’s system and imbibed it as a culture. The way they are still stealing the collective wealth of the country without any consequence makes the Nigerian youths believe that fraud and ill-gotten wealth pay. This mentality has killed moral value, encouraged fraud (419) and destroyed the future of the young generation. A group of heartless people siphoning public funds meant for maintaining roads, building schools and equipping hospitals etc. – the most common things every government should dutifully provide for her citizens – are wickedly wicked, and such groups ought not to be in the corridor of power.

The only business that is still flourishing optimally, very attractive and rewarding in Nigeria is corruption and Nigerian youths see it very viable and are joining en masse. The menace is so rooted in the country that every government sector has its own ugly style. The deep corrupt practices and indiscipline instilled into Nigerians by these politicians portray the country as one that may never function as a normal society. The whole system has been overwhelmingly messy in bribery and corruption. And if at all we will ever have the opportunity of reversing the vice and the ills, it will definitely not be under these two cancerous parties called PDP and APC as currently constituted.

A Nigerian politician will proudly tell Nigerians during election campaigns that he/she will deliver his/her polling booth, constituency or state for his/her political party. Such a rascal and arrogant proclamation is an intimidation to electorates, a threat to a free and fair election and anti-democratic. But the erroneous statement that invokes fear has been unfortunately made to look normal in Nigeria. Truth be told, anyone who makes such a statement should be closely watched, because the person will desperately do everything including falsification of election results in achieving that delivery. How can someone deliver a whole state or LGA to a candidate who is contesting an election if not through the instrumentality of fraud, thuggery and brutality – even killing? No individual has the capacity to singlehandedly deliver any candidate anywhere. Is that person the electorates that will vote? Definitely, if a man has got a good name, has integrity and is respected, he will surely influence people to vote anyone he supports. But to say that he will deliver a state for a candidate is an indirect threat and a warning that he will compromise the election. It is a place like Nigeria that a man will boldly tell people that he delivered his state to a candidate and he is hailed. Contestant’s records should do the delivery and not one criminal and his/her gangs who are good at moving around with armored vehicles and bullet proof cars from ward to ward on election days rewriting results, intimidating and snatching ballot boxes.

At this juncture it has become imperative to remind Nigerians that if we must get it right in 2027, we must demand the sack or resignation of the INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. The last election he conducted was a total failure and the worst in the history of Nigeria. Like Obasanjo once said, “We cannot reinforce failure”. If we want a functional society, the votes of citizens must count. Any year that starts to happen will begin our genuine walk to a total political freedom from the cobwebs of some criminal politicians called “godfathers”. It will throw up ample of good candidates with the required capacities and integrity that will patriotically lead for the interests of the people. A Nigerian politician who is evil knows that the day electorates’ votes count, will be the end of his/her reign of brutality and terror in Nigeria's treasury. But these groups of political vultures are shameless and will never give up, at least not willingly. It is either Nigerians accept the status quo or forcefully reject it. The choice is open.

APC and PDP members have made politics in Nigeria to be seen as a profession where the more one is horrible, brutal and manipulative, the more the person is recognized, highly respected and encouragingly rewarded with money, political positions or contracts. Additionally, the person could also be forcefully imposed on the people as their elected representative through shabby and manipulated elections. How unscrupulous and deeply corrupt a person is seems to be the standard of measurement set by these people that determine how successful a person will be in Nigerian politics. They reward evil and made corruption so attractive by establishing it as a well-paid flourishing enterprise. This has in return damaged the psyche of Nigerian youths and destroyed patriotism.

APC and PDP always go for each other’s throat during elections, but do not be deceived for after every election, whichever party that manipulatively overpowers another, the majority of the members of the subdued party switch allegiance immediately on flimsy excuses and continue the same game of fraud and corruption etc. How many Nigerian politicians have been punished for budget padding? Who was arrested and prosecuted for the scandalous huge amount of monies reported to have been found in a house somewhere in Ikoyi, Lagos State? How many times have they constituted committees to look into allegation of corruption against some of them and how many of their reports saw the light at the end of the day? So, make no mistake of an absolute established fact that there is no difference between PDP and APC. Many of them are stinkingly rotten in corruption. They are the same bitter contents of agony and calamity every patriotic Nigerian is tired of and craves to get rid of. Results of affluence some of them display within short periods of going into politics are testimonies that make many believe the narrative that politics in Nigeria is a dirty that ought to be reserved solely for those without integrity and honor.

Typical Nigerian politicians are greedy and politically fraudulent. The moment they become victims of gang ups and evil they incubated, hatched and once enjoyed they ignite sentiments and religion, and gullible Nigerians will jump out like table tennis to defend the thieves. These groups of people are using us. We even sometimes quarrel and have problems with our relatives and friends in their defense. Some people are permanent enemies with some of their family members because of a politician. When are we the ordinary citizens going to stop defending them? The less privileged in the north are suffering like the ones in the south, east and west. Therefore, the problem is not we the ordinary citizens but these politicians who are in authority. When it comes to thieving and sharing our common wealth, their political zones, parties and religious backgrounds become irrelevant. When are we the ordinary Nigerians also going to learn and unite against these small groups of political Buccaneers and parasites for our liberation? How much stolen money have these shameless people who do not care about us invested in our various communities for the benefit of all? Is it not because of their greed and criminality that we do not have constant electricity, standard hospitals/schools and good roads? They have compromised and made kidnapping a lucrative business that forced many to flee their villages for the fear of their lives. Even those who do not have the resources to relocate have been forcefully sacked from their ancestral homes by internationally recognized terrorists but named bandits locally by the Federal Government. Can one justify the silence and inactions of defending us from aggressors by this group of unpatriotic bunch? The effects of the evil perpetrated by APC and PDP against Nigeria and Nigerians are so terrible. They have corrupted every institution even including the judiciary.

Since 1999 APC and PDP have been the two cancerous parties holding Nigeria down. It has always been reported that NNPC is one of the most corrupt sectors in Nigeria. Why do we lack the zeal and the patriotism to ask Nigerian past presidents who made themselves ministers of petroleum to give account of the oil Nigeria produced daily under their ministry and where the money went to? How can Nigeria’s soil be said to have uranium and the allegations of mining and theft of the resources by foreigners in collaboration with some indigenous criminals becomes the order of the day and yet we claim to have patriotic leaders?

For us to have a prosperous country that functions like a normal society and to be respected internationally APC or PDP is not a choice for Nigeria in 2027.

Succinctly, corruption has been embarrassingly institutionalized in Nigeria, stealing and dishonesty shamelessly made trendy and attractive. In a nutshell, Nigeria is a hijacked project and its steering wheels have been been firmly gripped by some sadistic assemblies of criminals in APC and PDP. The majority of these people who are supposed to be chained in different prisons for various offences against Nigerians are sadly in leadership positions dictating what happens in Nigeria’s affairs. It is a tragedy no one – high or low – will escape from.

Unless something drastic happens and urgently too, and Nigerians stand up in unity against this bunch of criminal conglomerates, we will continue to gnash our teeth in lamentation in the midst of abundance. My consolation has always been that karma is a bitch, for whatsoever one sows one reaps.

My heart bleeds for Nigeria!

Religious Leaders: Unmasking the Tool of White Supremacy in African Contexts - Nigeria as Case study

Religious Leaders: Unmasking the Tool of White Supremacy in African Contexts - Nigeria as Case study

Nigeria, often referred to as the "most religious country in the world," boasts a staggering number of churches across the nation. However, despite the proliferation of these religious institutions, the country continues to grapple with high crime rates and widespread political corruption. This raises questions about the role of churches in shaping the moral landscape of the nation and their influence on addressing societal challenges.

A study conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2018 found that 46% of Nigerians attend church services at least once a week. Yet, the same country is plagued by rampant corruption, ranking 149 out of 180 countries on the 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index. Additionally, Nigeria faces alarming crime rates, with kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes remaining pervasive.

Some argue that churches have become overly focused on promoting prosperity theology and accumulating wealth, neglecting their responsibility to address the societal ills that plague the nation. With pastors living lavish lifestyles and amassing fortunes, it is reasonable to question whether these religious leaders are genuinely committed to advancing the well-being of their congregations and communities.

Moreover, churches in Nigeria have historically shied away from directly confronting political corruption, often focusing on spiritual matters while avoiding engagement in political discourse. However, as institutions with significant influence and reach, churches have the potential to serve as powerful platforms for addressing corruption and promoting good governance.

Here are some scriptures that can be relevant to the topic at hand:

Matthew 7:15-16 - "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits."

Romans 16:17-18 - "I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery, they deceive the minds of naive people."

1 Timothy 6:3-5 - "If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain."

As Nigeria navigates its complex challenges, it is crucial for religious institutions to reflect on their role in shaping society and addressing its most pressing issues. By moving beyond a focus on individual prosperity and actively engaging with political and social challenges, churches can become catalysts for positive change and contribute to building a more just and equitable nation.

Nigeria's Supreme Court grants full autonomy to Local Governments

Nigeria's Supreme Court grants full autonomy to Local Governments

Supreme Court Orders FG To Pay Allocations Directly To LGAs

Bars Governors from sacking LG Chairs

The Federal Supreme Court of Nigeria has granted a full financial autonomy to the local governments in the country.

In a suit between the federal government and state governments, the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government should pay monthly allocations directly to the local governments account. It also bars the State Government from arbitrary removal of the local governments' chairmen.

The Supreme Court has also barred governors from dissolving democratically elected officials for Local Governments.

The Court also orders the Federal Government to henceforth withhold allocations to Local Governments governed by unelected officials appointed by the Governor.

In a landmark judgement on Thursday, Court said not doing so, would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

Earlier, federal government was ordered by the Supreme Court to henceforth pay allocations directly to local government councils from the federation account.

The seven-member panel of justices held that state governments have continued to abuse their powers by retaining and using the funds meant for LGAs.

Going by this landmark judgement, the elections into the local governments will invariably become a subject of independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NIGERIA'S NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GRANTS FULL AUTONOMY TO THE 774 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, INEC TO BE CONDUCTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

NIGERIA'S NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GRANTS FULL AUTONOMY TO THE 774 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, INEC TO BE CONDUCTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

"The National Assembly on Tuesday, granted full financial and administrative autonomy to all the 774 local council authorities across Nigeria by amending section 124 of the nation’s constitution.

The section provides a consequential provision for the making of the local councils, a full third tier government without undue interference from the state governments.

The ammendment was one of the 22 others approved by the House of Representatives last week and ratified by the Senate on Tuesday.

Both chambers had through a conference committee harmonised versions of the ammendments into the constitution carried out by each of them last month.

By the development, the National Assembly had ratified all the 23 clauses and sections that had been ammended by both chambers.

The newly ammended document which would be sent to States Houses of Assembly, for approval, also approved the creation of the Office of Auditor General of the Local Government as well as the State Local Government Service Commission.

The section equally deleted the State

Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) from the constitution thereby vesting the powers to conduct council elections on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It however, retained the immunity clause in the constitution for the President and Governors by adopting the Senate version of the ammendments on the issue and rejected the House of Representatives version which removed the immunity clause.

The National Assembly also made provisions for Independent Candidacy in future elections in Nigeria by amending sections 65 and 106 of the 1999 constitution..."

Court Jails Five for Internet Fraud in Kaduna

Court Jails Five for Internet Fraud in Kaduna

Justices R.M Aikawa and A. Isiaka on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 convicted and sentenced five internet fraudsters to prison in Kaduna.

Justice Aikawa of the Federal High Court Kaduna sentenced and convicted the trio of Molwat Terah Sati, Zumshak Paul Wankof and Chidi Tochukwu Emmanuel, while Abraham Daniel (a.k.a Eric Wallace) and Amos Wisdom (a.k.a Laura Lute) were convicted by Justice Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court.

All the convicts were prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one-count separate charges, bordering on internet crimes.

Alleged N109bn Fraud: EFCC Didn’t Promise Former AGF Won’t be Prosecuted - Witness

The third Prosecution Witness, PW3, Abdulhamid Isa Muri, in the ongoing trial-within-trial of the former Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Ahmed Idris, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, told Justice Halilu Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Abuja that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, did not promise Idris that he was not going to face prosecution for his N109 billion alleged loot.

Muri is a staff of the EFCC whose duties involve intelligence gathering, conducting surveillance, partaking in undercover operations, interacting with informants and any other duty legally assigned by the Director of investigations or Zonal Director of Kano Command.

At the resumed proceedings on Tuesday, Muri while narrating how the defendant made his statement voluntarily,  pointed out that the Commission did not make such promises to the defendant.

According to the PW3, he met the first defendant through the former Kano Zonal Commander, Faruk Dogon Daji, who introduced him to the defendant and informed him that the defendant came to submit some documents linked to the investigation.

"On the 10th June, 2022, the first defendant went to our office and met the then zonal commander, Mr Faruk Dogon Daji, an Assistant Commander of EFCC, ACEI, in his office and based on this, the Zonal Commander sent for me and told me that the first defendant came to submit some documents that are linked to the investigation that was on-going concerning him and that I should take him to my office to write a about the documents",  he said.

According to him, “the first defendant in company of one Lawal Badamasi followed me to my office and the office is an open office where everybody can come in and go out and there in the office, there is one Mubarak, a staff of the Commission and Yusuf Baba Yusuf,” he said.

Continuing, PW3 said, “I administered a cautionary word, I told him his rights, I wrote out the cautionary word and he said he understood and thereafter he volunteered his statement mentioning the documents one after the other and signed the documents with the date of that day.”

When confronted by the prosecution counsel, A.O. Atolagbe, with the allegation of the EFCC promising the defendant that the Commission will not prosecute him,  Muri, said the Commission did not make such a promise to the defendant.

“The first defendant is alleging that this statement of June 10, 2022, is a product of promise, that he will not be prosecuted, what is your take,” Atolagbe asked.

“It is not true my Lord; I am not the investigation officer, I am just directed to take his statement,” he said.  According to Muri, the former AGF was not detained in the facility of the Kano Zonal Command of the Commission.

Justice Halilu Yusuf later discharged the witness after the cross-examination and adjourned the matter till October 29, 2024, for defence of trial-within-trial after the counsel to the first defendant cross-examined the PW3.

Idris  is being prosecuted by the EFCC on 14-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N109, 485,572,691. The EFCC arraigned Idris before the Federal Capital Territory High Court on July 22, 2022.

He was arraigned alongside Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

Sokoto State Government to MURIC: Remain apolitical, your accusations on deposition of Sultan untrue, baseless, biased, unfounded

Sokoto State Government to MURIC: Remain apolitical, your accusations on deposition of Sultan untrue, baseless, biased, unfounded

The Sokoto State Government has rebuked the Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) over a publication made by the body alleging a plan by the sttate government to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto,  Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar.

A statement signed by Abubakar Bawa who is the Press Secretary to the Sokoto state Governor said Sokoto State Government wondered how a responsible body like MURIC, claiming to be protecting the rights of the Muslims would descend so low and cheaply as to join hands with deluded mischief makers and enemies of progress to fabricate such a false and unsubstantiated story just to create an unfriendly atmosphere and fear in the minds of the law-abiding and peaceful citizens of the state.

Full Statement:

The attention of the Sokoto State Government has been drawn to a malicious publication credited to the Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) alleging a plan by the sttate government to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto,  Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar.

The state government wondered how a responsible  body like MURIC, claiming to be protecting the rights of the Muslims would descend so low and cheaply as to join hands with deluded mischief makers and enemies of progress to fabricate such a false and unsubstantiated story just to create an unfriendly atmosphere and fear in the minds of the law-abiding and peaceful citizens of the state.

We believe that MURIC is not the type that will be dancing to the tunes of enemies and mischief makers who are trying to take away the attention of the good people of Sokoto state and Nigerians on the transformative initiatives taking place in Sokoto State over the last one year.

We also like to assure MURIC that the present administration just like the previous administrations in the state cherishes and respects the Sultanate Council long before MURIC was established.

The Sultanate Council, which has a long standing historical importance is so reverred to all the people of Sokoto State, therefore we still hold the institution in very high regards and esteem.

This is not the first time stories such as this  were fabricated to show that all is not well between the state government and the Sultanate Council, as some few months back we had a similar obnoxious story which the state government categorically condemned and denied in whole.

From the look of things, those nefarious  detractors and distracting enemies of progress have not relented in their failed efforts  to smear the cordial relationship existing between the state government and the Sultanate Council.

MURIC should have cared to find out if there was ever any query, warning or any threatening documents served on the sultan by the state government.

We equally like to remind MURIC that promoting Islamic affairs is the second item on the Ahmed Aliyu's nine-point Smart Agenda, therefore Islam means so much to the present administration, coupled with the fact that Sokoto being the Seat of the Caliphate, is a 100 per cent Muslim-dominated society.

It is on record that no administration in the history of Sokoto State has done to Islam what the present administration has done in just one year. This we say without any fear of contradictions.

Therefore, for any one to think that the present administration could engage in acts or actions that could jeopardize the development of  Islam is not only unfair but unjustifiable.

To put the records straight, we would like to tell the world that the relationship between the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration and the Sultanate Council under the leadership of our most respected monarch, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar has been very cordial.

The present administration always consulted  with His Eminence, the Sultan on issues affecting the state, and his invaluable contributions and inputs are always respected and included in policy implementation.

On the issue of sacking and transfer of some District Heads in Sokoto State, MURIC should know that the affected District Heads were  accused of some unbecoming behaviours, such as land racketeering, aiding insecurity as well as insurbodination to the constituted authority.

In order to give them fair hearing the committee summoned all the affected District Heads, after which it came up with a whitepaper report, advising the government on what to do. And it was based on that and also in the public interest  that the state government acted in conformity with the recommendations made by the whitepaper committee.

It is equally important for MURIC to note that nobody is above the law, therefore, the sacked District Heads are just reaping what they sow, and that the action taken by the Sokoto State Government was indisputably in the best public interest.
