OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 31ST JULY, 2021: WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 31ST JULY, 2021: WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?

THEME: WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?

MEMORISE:

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

1 Corinthians 2:9

BIBKE READING: John 4:23-24.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

MESSAGE:

The Scriptures present us with a marked difference between the priorities of our Lord Jesus Christ and the concerns of His disciples.

Just like His disciples, many of us are too bothered with how to meet our physical, psychological and emotional needs, rather than on spiritual things. We immerse ourselves in temporal concerns.

Jesus assured His disciples that the Father knew their needs and would always provide for them (Luke 11:11-13).

Jesus described what should be the topmost priority of all Heaven-bound Christians in Matthew 6:33:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

It is often said that passionate people make the greatest contributions to the society. Be passionate about the things of God. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, so that the necessities of daily life will be provided. It is time to reprioritize your life and passion.

God is called the God of glory in Act 7:2. There is a great expectation for all who serve God in holiness and truth. Everyone who dedicates themselves to serving God in spirit and in truth will enjoy divine favour (Psalm 5:12).

It should be noted that a day of Devine favour is better than many years of labor. Divine favor is superior to luck or good fortune. I pray that you will experience divine favor from today, in Jesus’ name.

Heaven-bound Christians are focused on serving God in spirit and in truth (John 2:24).

Material and worldly possessions are secondary to them, despite God’s assurance of His provision. There is fruitfulness for all who consecrate themselves to serving God in spirit and truth.

Psalm 92:12 says:

“The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”

There is an assurance of victory over all known and unknown enemies for those who serve God in righteousness.

Psalm 132:18 says:

“His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.”

Are you consecrated to God? Do you love Him? Is the righteousness of God your priority? If your answer to each of these questions is ‘yes’, blessed are you. If not, seek a deeper relationship with the Lord from today and you would be blessed also.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please grant me the grace to consecrate myself unto You. Help me to make righteousness my utmost priority, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Job 21-22.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE.

HYMNAL: I NEED THEE EV’RY HOUR.

1. I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;

No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

o Refrain:

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;

Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;

Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;

And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

5. I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;

Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 9TH MAY 2021: NO HOPELESSNESS IN GOD

THEME: NO HOPELESSNESS IN GOD

MEMORISE:

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Job 14:7

READ: 2 Kings 4:1-7

1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

MESSAGE:

When God steps into any situation, He turns things around. God can transform a debtor to someone who lends to nations, He can turn a destitute widow to the richest person in her community.

There is a beautiful story in the Scripture reading of today; it illustrates how God can change anyone's story provided the fellow is obedient. When you have an encounter with God, you only need to carry out the divine instructions given to you for your story to become a reference point of the wonders of God. The widow who had lost all hope, had an encounter with God through His prophet, Elisha and her story changed for good.

We can learn a few things from her. You would see that she desperately cried for help. Beloved, if any hopeless fellow will receive aid from the "Present Help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1), such a person must cry to God in desperation. God is eager to intervene in the affairs of those who will cry unto Him for help. Jeremiah 29 :13 says:

 "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Anyone who makes the effort to seek God will surely find him. However, as long as you decide to manage without crying to God in prayer, you will remain in your present condition. When you are truly tired of your situation, like the woman in the Bible reading of today, you will cry out to God in desperation. The Bible did not say the widow had a chat with Elisha, rather it says that she cried unto Him because she was in desperate need of a miracle. She did not murmur before the prophet, neither did she grumble to attract his attention nor seek the sympathy of the people. Instead, she cried out for divine intervention, got Heaven's attention and her problem was permanently solved.

As you cry to God today, He will answer you and every hopeless situation in your life will turn around for good. Hope will rise for you and you will sing a new song of victory in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

Cry unto God today and ask Him to intervene in your situation.

 HYMNAL: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING.

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,

Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

o Refrain:

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see

Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;

Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,

Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,

Resting in my Savior as my all in all,

Standing on the promises of God.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2021: SPIRITUAL ADULTERY

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2021: SPIRITUAL ADULTERY

THEME: SPIRITUAL ADULTERY

MEMORISE:

For Thy Maker is Thine husband; the Lord of hosts is His name; and Thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called. Isaiah 54:5

READ:  Hosea 2:2-5

2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

MESSAGE:

The relationship between God and man can be likened to that of a husband and his wife. Paul confirms this when he enjoined husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25). This is why God punishes anyone caught in spiritual adultery. For example, He punished the Israelites in Judges 2:11,13-14:

 *“And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: ... And they forsook the Lord and served Baal and Ashtaroth. And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they  could not any longer stand before their enemies.”*

Just like a man could be jealous over the relationship of his wife with another man, when we serve other gods besides Him, God becomes very jealous (Exodus 20:5). The spiritual adultery committed by the children of Israel can be likened to the relationship between Hosea and Gomer - a professional harlot-turned-wife. The patience of Hosea with Gomer (who was always going back to her whoredom like a dog that goes back to its vomit) also illustrates God's patience with His people who court the friendship of the world.

1 John 2:15 says:

*"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."*

Our love cannot be shared between God and the temporary things of this world. Jesus confirms this in Luke 16:13, where He said:

*"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."*

Attempting to love God and the world at the same time will lead to rejection and shame (Revelation 3:15-16).

Beloved, beware of spiritual adultery, as it would only lead to eternal damnation. Stick to Jesus Christ, the Lover of your soul.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please forgive me of any spiritual adultery I might have committed against You. I promise to remain faithful to You until the very end.

HYMN 14: JESUS MY LORD, MY GOD, MY ALL

1 Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All,

Hear me, blest Saviour, when I call;

Hear me, and from Thy dwelling place

Pour down the riches of Thy grace.

Refrain:

Jesus, my Lord, I Thee adore;

O make me love Thee more and more.

2. Jesus, too late I Thee have sought;

how can I love thee as I ought?

And how extol Thy matchless fame,

the glorious beauty of Thy name?

3. Jesus, what didst Thou find in me

that Thou hast dealt so lovingly?

How great the joy that Thou hast brought,

so far exceeding hope or thought!
