OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2021: CHRISTIAN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2021: CHRISTIAN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

THEME: CHRISTIAN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

 MEMORISE:

 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Matthew 6:3

READ: Matthew 6:1-4

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

MESSAGE:

Some people may think that Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) is a twenty-first century concept, but that is not so. In fact, CSR has been in existence since the Old Testament days. I encourage you to read Leviticus 19:9-10; you will see from that Scripture that social responsibility had already been entrenched in the law of sowing and reaping among the children of Israel, and by extension children of Abraham in the faith.

When you cater for the poor, you are ministering deliverance to yourself; indeed Psalm 41:1 says that for anyone who does this “….the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.” Be they financial, physical, spiritual, marital, or career troubles, God will deliver you when you help the less privileged.

When the widow of Zarephath was giving her last meal to the prophet, she could not have known that she would be reaping deliverance from starvation for the next three and a half years, for herself and her household. Psalm 41:2 also says the Lord will preserve those who remember the poor and keep them alive. Thus, if you want long life, one of the surest ways of getting it is by giving to the poor.

Today’s Scripture reading tells us how best to execute our CSR projects before the Lord. God’s way of doing CSR is such that we do not seek the commendation of men like the people of the world, especially when politicians want people’s votes. When we engage in charitable deeds and then invite the media to broadcast it so we can receive commendation from the world, we are doing the direct opposite of what Jesus wants. I spoke extensively on this in one of my telecasts during the COVID-19 pandemic early last year. According to Matthew 6:2, we lose our eternal reward when we advertise our acts of social responsibility just because we seek human commendation. However, when we do our social responsibility Jesus’ way, our reward is eternal. Matthew 6:4 says:

“…and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.”

Beloved, remember the poor around you and be sure to put smile on the face of at least one person in need today. As you do, don’t forget to do it Christ’s way. God will bless you abundantly as you do, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, as I go about doing what You ask of me today, please help me not to miss my blessings, in Jesus’ name.

THEME: IT MAY NOT BE THE DEVIL!

MEMORISE:

O Lord, rebuke me not in Thy wrath: neither chasten me in Thy hot displeasure.

Psalm 38:1

READ: Psalm 38:1-9

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in Thy wrath: neither chasten me in Thy hot displeasure.

2 For Thine arrows stick fast in me, and Thy hand presseth me sore.

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of Thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

7 For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

9 Lord, all my desire is before Thee; and my groaning is not hid from Thee.

MESSAGE:

It is disastrous for a Christian not to know the source of his or her challenges. It is indeed very possible that the challenge you are going through may not even be from the devil. It may be a chastisement coming directly from the Lord. Once you are able to confirm this, like the Psalmist in today’s Scripture reading, you must humble yourself in repentance before Jesus. you must always look inward anytime you feel that your relationship with God is strained. That is what the Psalmist always did. Sadly, today, many Christians always want to exonerate themselves; they are so quick to attribute the challenges of their lives to the devil. At times, I imagine the devil saying “You’ve missed it. You are a child of God; I dare not come near you.” How I wish all Christians would be spiritually sensitive.

You must know that sin brings the wrath of God upon a sinner, irrespective of the spiritual standing of the fellow before he or she fell into sin. I know this is because Ezekiel 33:12 says:

*“…The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: ...neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.”*

Thank God for 1 John 2:1-2 which offers hope to anyone who strays into sin. It says:

*“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”*

If you have sinned, you must not be too proud to repent. Likewise, when others have sinned, it is not your place to say whether they would be forgiven or not.

As a body, we are not to bury wounded soldiers who are still struggling to survive. Unfortunately, that’s what many so-called Christians do; we take away the life support from dying soldiers and make their journey to hell faster! There is enough room at the top for all children of God, so there is no need to pull anyone down in order to rise.

Don’t become an enemy to yourself. a house divided against itself shall not stand (Matthew 12:25).

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please open my eyes to see the true cause of every challenge I am facing, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMN  7: HAVE YOU BEEN TO JESUS FOR THE CLEANSING POWER?

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

REFRAIN:

Are you washed in the blood,

In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?

Are your garments spotless?

Are they white as snow?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Saviour’s side?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3. When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4. Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;

There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,

O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” (Luke 2: 10)

WELCOME TO DECEMBER 2021 – OUR MONTH OF SUPERNATURAL JOY

This month is declared unto you a season of unending joy.

Your days of weeping are over, your tears are supernaturally wiped away.

No more weeping, no more sorrow for you, in the name of Jesus.

No more heaviness and no more depression in your household.

In the place of sorrow, you will now have joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Instead of mourning you will overflow with the oil of gladness

No evil news for you and your family, the remaining days of this year.

Goodnews of joy will be your portion all through this season.

This shall be to you a season of jubilations and celebrations

Your joy will know no bounds.

You will rejoice over your family, business and career.

You shall not be weak or weary, for the Joy of the Lord shall be your strength.

You will not sorrow over your spouse and your children.

You are clothed with divine garment of praise.

You will dance for joy and celebrate with gladness.

All through this month and beyond your mouth will be filled with laughter.

Your joy will be unstoppable, your laughter will be unending.

From your home shall proceed the sound of rejoicing and songs of thanksgiving.

You will end this year well and with great joy.

You will enter the new year with unusual happiness and rejoicing.

You will dance for joy and share testimonies of great joy.

With great joy you will draw water out of the well of salvation.

Your ministry will blossom with joy.

Your life and ministry will bring the blessings of joy to many others.

God will use you to wipe away the tears of others around you.

Through you, the joy of the Lord will fill your community.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR MONDAY, 29th NOVEMBER 2021: SORROWS OF UNGODLY PROSPERITY

THEME: SORROWS OF UNGODLY PROSPERITY

MEMORISE: Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Psalm 37:1

READ: Psalm 37:1-9

1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.

6 And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

MESSAGE:

It is common for unbelievers to flaunt their prosperity. However, as we see in today’s memory verse, God does not want His children to be carried away by the 'success' of unbelievers.

Today’s Scripture reading contains many attractive things that unbelievers seemingly enjoy, so much so that unless a child of God is well-grounded in the Scripture, the fellow may think that he or she is missing out on something by being godly.

Beloved, deciding to maintain a godly lifestyle is the best decision you can ever make. God is taking account of your watchfulness in doing His will and He will soon make it known to the wicked world that you are right and they are wrong. The Psalmist describes the end of the wicked in Psalm 73:16-18:

*"When I thought to know this, it was painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely Thou didst set them in slippery places: Thou castedst them down into destruction."*

You do not have to be corrupt simply because the world claims that everyone is. The truth is that, like God did in the time of Elijah (1 Kings 19:14,18), He has also reserved an unimaginable number of His children who have made up their minds to follow the Master to the end, even today.

The story is told of two Christian soldiers who stormed a meeting place of Christians during the reign of terror in the Soviet Union. These soldiers threatened to kill whoever confessed Jesus as their Lord, and promised to set free those who might want to change their minds. Unfortunately, many of those ‘Christians’ denied Christ. It was while the freed worshippers were leaving that the soldiers revealed their true identities and intent to show hypocritical Christians among the flock.

Today, ungodliness is in vogue because it seems to pay off. However, this is not true, especially when you consider the end of people who live as such. Beloved, let us keep on the firing line of holiness because Matthew 10:22 says whosoever endures to the end shall experience the ultimate salvation.

May you indeed endure to the end and receive your crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8), in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me to keep holding fast to the word of salvation and to live thereby, to the end.

HYMNAL:

JESUS MY LORD, MY GOD, MY ALL

1. Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,

Hear me, blest Saviour, when I call;

Hear me, and from Thy dwelling place

Pour down the riches of Thy grace.

Refrain:

Jesus, my Lord, I Thee adore;

O make me love Thee more and more.

2. Jesus, too late I Thee have sought;

How can I love Thee as I ought?

And how extol Thy matchless fame,

The glorious beauty of Thy name?

3. Jesus, what didst Thou find in me

That Thou hast dealt so lovingly?

How great the joy that Thou hast brought,

So far exceeding hope our thought!

4. Jesus, of Thee shall be my song;

To Thee my heart and soul belong;

All that I have or am is Thine,

And Thou, blest Saviour, Thou art mine.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2021: WHO IS YOUR REAL ENEMY?

THEME: WHO IS YOUR REAL ENEMY?

MEMORISE:

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

READ: Psalm 35:1-7

1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

MESSAGE:

Does your enemy have any legitimate claim against you? Are you sure your adversary does not have a genuine reason to attack you?

 These are the questions you must answer before inviting God - the Great Ally, to come to your aid in the battle of life. Requesting divine intervention against your enemies will be counterproductive if you are the real enemy of yourself. How can one be an enemy of himself or herself? The answer is in today’s memory verse. You can be against yourself when you break divine laws, and this has its consequences. An example is in Malachi 3:8-9:

*“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed Me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed Me, even this whole nation.”*

Anyone who refused to pay their tithes is robbing God. What are you doing that is taking you away from your maker - the One who is supposed to be your unfailing Ally? You must answer this question before inviting God to be your Ally so you wouldn’t be inviting Someone you have taken as an enemy - that would be the greatest irony of all. Many times, I have told my children that there is only one person who can be against us when God wants to be for us and that is our very selves! The nobleman said to the unprofitable servant in Luke 19:22:

*“…Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant...”*

We can also create enmity with the Greatest Ally when we abuse God’s temple either by sexual immorality or indecent dressing. 1 Corinthians 3:17 says God would destroy anyone who destroys His temple. Your dressing can destroy another person and when that happens, you create enmity between yourself and God. Thus, there is no way God can come to your rescue in the time of adversity. This is why you must ensure that your friendship with God is not in doubt at any time. This is possible when you accept Jesus as your Lord and forsake all sinful habits.

If you are already born again, continue to live Holy. When you do, God will fight for you and humiliate your enemies in ways you could never have imagined.

Beloved, I beseech you: do not be an enemy to yourself and ensure you are always on the side of God.

ACTION POINT:

Examine yourself and make sure the Greatest Ally is not only your God but your friend also.

HYMNAL:

ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the blood,

From Thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure,

Save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Not the labours of my hands

Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;

Could my zeal no respite know,

Could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone;

Thou must save, and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,

Simply to the cross I cling;

Naked, come to Thee for dress;

Helpless, look to Thee for grace;

Foul, I to the fountain fly;

Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath,

When my eyes shall close in death,

When I soar to worlds unknown,

See Thee on Thy judgement throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee.

MEMORISE

“Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” – (Hebrews 1:9)

 READ: Psalm 33:1-5 (KJV)

1. Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous; for praise is comely for the upright.

2. Praise the LORD with harp; sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

3. Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

4. For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

5. He loveth righteousness and judgment; the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

MESSAGE

There are many things we must consider before Romans 8:28 can become a reality in our lives. We have to first look at today’s Scripture reading in conjunction with the memory verse.

Today’s Scripture reading reveals that only a certain group of people can rejoice in the Lord and they are the righteous. In other words, even amidst all the calamities in this world, the righteous can still experience the goodness of the Lord. We also see that what makes a man righteous is the word of God. Psalm 33:4 says:

For the word of the Lord is right and all his works are done in truth.

Psalm 119:9 and 115-116 also corroborate this. Although unrighteousness appears to have become the order of the day and it appears the wicked are walking around free and ‘rejoicing’, you must not be deceived because their end is destruction. I know this because Psalm 73:18-19 says:

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

We see a contrast in fortune for the righteous in today’s memory verse, however. Here, the blessedness of righteousness is revealed. Those who love to be upright and hate iniquity are anointed with the oil of gladness. In other words, even when the world is in agony, the righteous are far from calamities, rejoicing in the goodness of the Lord. A classic example of this is Noah who was preserved in the ark with members of his immediate family during the flood (Genesis 7:17). While others agonized and drowned, Noah was navigating upon the flood safely with his family. This is exactly how it would turn out on the last day; the righteous shall rejoice and the wicked shall be damned. Even now, God knows how He keeps His children from danger. Psalm 91 confirms this.

May the blessedness of the Lord be your portion from today as you live righteously, even in this perverse world, in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT

Father, please endow me with the blessedness of the righteous, even as I live for You, in the name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER, 2021: THE BLESSING OF FORGIVENESS

THEME: THE BLESSING OF FORGIVENESS

MEMORIZE:

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psalms 32: 1

BIBLE READING:

LUKE 23:39-43

39. And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41. And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

MESSAGE

We may not be able to comprehend what true blessedness is until we experience divine forgiveness. Nothing can be compared with the joy of salvation.

We see this with Zacchaeus when Jesus called him in Luke 19:2-8; it was that joy that caused him to make restitution for his past evil deeds.

When a man is genuinely saved, he will not only joyfully live a godly life, he will also feel compelled to right his past wrongdoings.

It is the lack of genuine salvation that makes an individual to still keep, for example, a strange man or woman in his or her life, even after conversion.

One of the most amazing salvation stories is in todays Bible reading.

 With just a few hours before he would have gone into hell, one of the robbers on the cross beside Jesus experienced a great turnaround and entered into Paradise.

From this, we can see that the salvation prayer does not have to be lengthy; it only has to be simple, straight to the point and sincere.

All you need to do is repent of your sins and promise God not to return to them. Pleading the blood of Jesus over your life for cleansing is also paramount in this regard.

We see the publican pray in Luke 18:10-14 ..God be merciful to me a sinner and Jesus said of him I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other.. Gods blessings (divine help) come in multiple forms but the blessing of divine forgiveness should be the first one we should all seek.

In todays Bible reading, both robbers made separate requests. One asked for deliverance, the other salvation. Jesus Christ prioritised the request for salvation. Here we see true blessedness.

Beloved, true blessedness lies in the forgiveness we receive for our sins; it is upon this foundation that all other blessings are built. This is why, if you are yet to repent, I implore you to do so without further delay.

Confess your known and unknown sins to Jesus – the Saviour of mankind. He will forgive you as He did Zacchaeus and the robber on the cross, so that Gods blessings will flow into your life, in Jesus name.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please pardon all my known and unknown iniquities and give me the power to Go and sin no more, in Jesus name.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR THURSDAY, 25TH NOVEMBER, 2021: STAND UP AGAINST EVIL

THEME: STAND UP AGAINST EVIL

MEMORISE

“He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.” – (Proverbs 17:15)

 READ: Proverbs 17:13-15 (KJV)

13. Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14. The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

15. He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

MESSAGE

The ability to stand firm against eviI is one of the many virtues that are gradually disappearing from the Church today. The axiom “If you can’t beat them, join them has become widely acceptable. May God help His church in the mighty name of Jesus.

Our memory verse today states clearly that God abhors those who support wickedness as well as those who upbraid the just. When we refuse to condemn evil and wickedness we will definitely reject and vote against the just. Jesus Christ, after commending their charitable service, faith and patience, warned the Church at Thyatira against tolerating sexual immorality, typified in the woman Jezebel who called herself a prophetess - seducing innocent souls in the Church (Revelation 2:20). Such people are those who, through their comportment, excessive adornment and fashion have moved the world into the Church. Apostle Paul cautioned us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14).

The call of God to us today is to stand up against evil, first within the Church, before taking the battle to the gates of hell. Unfortunately, many Christians applaud or ignore ungodly acts - even in the Church. They shy away from condemning ungodly acts for fear of being condemned by the world. This is why, in some countries, you cannot preach against homosexuality; if you do, you may be jailed and it is your fellow Christian brethren or pastor who will condemn you as being foolish for not being discreet enough! Likewise, in some societies, violence against women, especially rape, is rampant, yet nothing meaningful is being done to stop the practice.

One of my children was once on a panel where some pastors were being interviewed for promotion. One particular candidate had been most passionate about his convictions with respect to godly standards as contained in the word of God, opposing worldly views with confidence. However, when this godly candidate left, another member of the panel said “If this is what that pastor is holding on to, he will not have ten people in his congregation!”

The truth has been mortgaged in some quarters of Christendom. Beloved, please arise and let us, as one, stand against evil.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please revive Your Church. Let the body of Christ be light unto the world as we stand against every form of evil in our societies in Jesus' name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

Jude

HYMNAL: - STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS

1. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,

 Ye soldiers of the Cross!

 Lift high His royal banner;

 It must not suffer loss.

 From vict'ry unto vict'ry

 His army shall He lead,

 Till every foe is vanquished,

 And Christ is Lord indeed.

 2. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,

 The trumpet call obey;

 Forth to the mighty conflict,

 In this His glorious day;

 Ye that are men now serve Him

 Against unnumbered foes;

 Let courage rise with danger,

 And strength to strength oppose.

 3. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!

 Stand in His strength alone;

 The arm of flesh will fail you,

 Ye dare not trust your own:

 Put on the gospel armour,

 And watching unto prayer;

 Where duty calls, or danger,

 Be never wanting there.

 4. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!

 The strife will not be long;

 This day the noise of battle,

 The next the victor's song;

 To him that overcometh,

 A crown of life shall be;

 He with the King of glory

 Shall reign eternally.

HYMNAL: - STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS

1. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,

 Ye soldiers of the Cross!

 Lift high His royal banner;

 It must not suffer loss.

 From vict'ry unto vict'ry

 His army shall He lead,

 Till every foe is vanquished,

 And Christ is Lord indeed.

 2. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,

 The trumpet call obey;

 Forth to the mighty conflict,

 In this His glorious day;

 Ye that are men now serve Him

 Against unnumbered foes;

 Let courage rise with danger,

 And strength to strength oppose.

 3. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!

 Stand in His strength alone;

 The arm of flesh will fail you,

 Ye dare not trust your own:

 Put on the gospel armour,

 And watching unto prayer;

 Where duty calls, or danger,

 Be never wanting there.

 4. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!

 The strife will not be long;

 This day the noise of battle,

 The next the victor's song;

 To him that overcometh,

 A crown of life shall be;

 He with the King of glory

 Shall reign eternally.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 2021: CRY OUT TO THE LORD

THEME: CRY OUT TO THE LORD

MEMORISE:

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. Psalm 3:4

READ: Mark 10:46-52

46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.

51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

MESSAGE:

It is sad that many Christians fail to take advantage of the numerous prayer meetings available to them, to get their problems solved. Some come to Church and are unable to cry to God to solve the challenges that brought them to His presence. Others even doze off at prayer vigils, missing their moments of divine visitation. In today’s Bible reading, we see the beautiful reward of crying to God in prayer. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing through Jericho, he cried out. Though he had no eyes to see Jesus, he made use of his mouth to cry out to the Lord, even when the people around were discouraging him from doing so (Mark 10:48).

Many years ago, a woman was attacked by the devil. It was such that she was unable to retain in her system anything she ate. When things became unbearable, she ran to God. She came for one of our services and arrived at a point when the Lord was asking the congregation to shout “Hallelujah”. The woman, in faith, responded to the Lord’s command through His minister and shouted “Hallelujah” with everyone else. God honored her faith as she shouted; a worm pooped out of her mouth and that was the end of her problem.

Sometimes, people who cannot help yu may try to discourage you from crying to God for help. It is left for you to either allow them to discourage you or refuse to be shut up. As for me, I will not be shut up. Psalm 5:3 says:

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

While Jesus knew Bartimaeus’ need, He still asked him what he wanted. This is because Jesus would not break the Scripture in Matthew 7:7 which says “Ask, and it shall be given unto you…..” Thank God Bartimaeus asked for his ultimate need to be met- his eyesight, not for some shekels. His cry was meaningful. There are also meaningless cries- cries without substance. They are the type Jesus describes as “vain repetitions” (Matthew 6:7). A vain repetition is any form of prayer not in alignment with the will and word of God (James 4:30). Beloved, like Bartimaeus did in Mark 10:51, you must cry to God meaningfully! May the Lord hear your cry today, in Jesus’ name.

ACTION POINT:

Make a list of your major needs and spend time crying to God to meet them all in Jesus’ name.

HYMNAL:   WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh, what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged—

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful,

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge—

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,

Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised

Thou wilt all our burdens bear;

May we ever, Lord, be bringing

All to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright, unclouded,

There will be no need for prayer—

Rapture, praise, and endless worship

Will be our sweet portion there.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TUESDAY 23RD NOVEMBER 2021: UNITED IN REBELLION?

THEME: UNITED IN REBELLION?

MEMORISE: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13

READ: Genesis 11:1-8

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

MESSAGE:

Any coalition that does not have God and His perfect will as its focus is evil. Our memory verse today says we are only made perfect when we come to the unity of faith which comes from the knowledge of Jesus Christ. This Scripture is simply saying that when we are called to unite, we must first ask for the purpose of such union. This is because uniting with people blindly could result in untold agony, as we see in the case of Jehoshaphat the King of Judah and his unholy alliance with the idolatrous Ahab King of Israel (1 Kings 22). It was only the mercy of God that spared Jehoshaphat from dying another man’s death.

The unfortunate thing about an ungodly and rebellious alliance is that it always ends in frustration and shame. Psalm 2:4 says when people do this:

*“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.”*

We see this with the people at Babel in today’s Bible reading. They united in rebellion and God confounded their language, so they could not understand one another.

The record in Psalm 2:2 teaches us several lessons. One is that God is always aware of any alliance to rebel against Him. The Almighty God will always reveal the evil plans of your enemies, in Jesus’ name. two, God does not only expose the evil conspiracies, He also always does something about them. We see an example in Daniel 6:7-24 when the princes and presidents in Babylon conspired against Daniel. All those who are united against God’s purpose for your life shall be confounded and their purposes will be defeated, in Jesus’ name. Three, when God arises to foil the plans of those who unite against Him and His people, He leaves them confused and in disarray. Your enemies will never be able to agree in their decision to destroy you, in Jesus’ name.

Do not consent when rebellious people ask you to join them (Proverbs 1:10-15).

Beloved, look inward: are you uniting in any form of rebellion? Now is the time to stop, if you are. If you are not, I congratulate you. May the Lord grant you the grace never to align yourself with rebels, in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

If the activities of your friends and those you spend time with are not in alignment with the word of God, part ways with them and make new friends amongst genuine children of God.

HYMNAL: IN CHRIST ALONE

1. In Christ alone, my hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this solid ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

2. In Christ alone, who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

'Til on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live, I live.

3. There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

4. No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life's first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR MONDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2021: ENVY IS EVIL

THEME: ENVY IS EVIL.

MEMORISE:

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. James 3:16

READ: James 3:13-16

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

MESSAGE:

Envy is so serious that Proverb 27:4 says: “Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?”

This means that wrath and anger are no match for envy. Beloved, it would take divine intervention for an envious person to escape the consequences of his or her actions. Joseph was an object of envy even among his brothers, so much so that they could have killed him if not for God who kept him. In the end however, all those who were envious of the grace of God upon his life bowed to him. Are you an object of envy from your household- biological or spiritual? The Lord will deliver you today, in Jesus’ name.

God’s word is true throughout the ages; thus, we must watch out for our attitude towards it. Jesus said in Matthew 10:36 that “….a man's foes shall be they of his own household.”

Joseph’s story is a lesson for believers who share testimonies of divine happenings that are still at the incubation stage, thus furnishing the enemies with information that could be used against them. Joseph naively revealed his dream of becoming a ruler to his brothers who were already envious. He could have kept the dream to himself and would still have fulfilled his destiny because it was of the Lord. I know this because Psalm 33:11 says:

“The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever……..”

As God’s children, the Bible is full of assurances of protection for us. Psalm 23, for example, says that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we shall fear no evil and that goodness and mercy shall follow us wherever we go.

We must be mindful however, of the kind of people we share our visions, dreams and aspirations with because the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). We must not deliberately rouse the envy of our enemies because grace does not cover frivolity.

While we have the guarantee of the Lord’s protection, we must also be careful not to court envy by our actions or inactions thereby generating unnecessary strife.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please grant me the wisdom not to deliberately stir up envy. Please, protect me and my family from all evil.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2021: THE TONGUE OF FIRE

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2021: THE TONGUE OF FIRE

THEME:  THE TONGUE OF FIRE.

MEMORISE:

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.  Proverbs 15:1

READ:  James 3:1-10

1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

MESSAGE:

Apostle James captures the extent to which the tongue can go in destroying a person’s destiny, in today’s Bible reading:

“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”  James 3:6

The tongue indeed is a fire, thus it must be controlled. Controlled fire can be used productively; however, uncontrolled  fire destroys. The tongue is so complex that it could be likened to a fountain that produces cold and hot water at the same time. What can we now do to this thing that the Bible describes as “….an unruly evil, full of deadly poison?” (James 3:8). Since the Bible describes the tongue as poison the good news is that Jesus promised us that even if we drink a deadly thing, it shall by no means hurt us (Mark 16:18). Therefore, one can see that every problem of man ends at the cross of Jesus Christ.

The story was told of a woman who was having problem in her marriage. She consulted a wise old man in her family who gave her a small, smooth stone to slip into her mouth and lick, remaining silent, every time her husband picked a quarrel with her. She did this and before long, peace was restored to that home. She ran to the wise old man to show her gratitude for the effectiveness of the charm only to have him tell her that what he had given her was an ordinary stone. He had merely found a way to make her keep quiet rather than destroy her home with her mouth.

The Bible says:

Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.   Proverbs 16:24

Choose to speak only words that edify and if you must correct someone, do it constructively and in love.

All children of God must learn to control their tongues. As there is a time to talk, there is also a time to keep silent (Ecclesiastes 3:7).

When we talk, our words must be fitly spoken (Proverbs 25:11) in due season (Proverbs 15:23).

PRAYER POINT :

Help me Lord to bridle my tongue at all times, in the mighty name of Jesus.

 HYMNAL:  OH WHAT A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL DAY.

 1. O what a wonderful, wonderful day

Day I will never forget

After I'd wandered in darkness away

Jesus my Savior I met

O what a tender, compassionate friend

He met the need of my heart

Shadows dispelling, with joy I am telling

He made all the darkness depart

Refrain:

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul (filled my soul)

When at the cross my Savior made me whole (made me whole)

My sins were washed away

And my night was turned to day

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul

 2. Born of the Spirit with life from above

Into God's family divine

Justified fully thru Calvary's love

O what a standing is mine

And the transaction so quickly was made

When as a sinner I came

Took of the offer of grace He did proffer

He saved me, O praise His dear name

 3. Now I've a hope that will surely endure

After the passing of time

I have a future in heaven for sure

There in those mansions sublime

And it's because of that wonderful day

When at the cross I believed

Riches eternal and blessings supernal

From His precious hand I received
