CORE LAGOS STATE CHAPTER CONDEMNS CRACKDOWN ON PROTESTERS AT ABUJA AND ATTACK ON OMOYELE SOWORE

*Press Statement - May 31st 2021

The Lagos state chapter of Coalition for Revolution condemns the Nigeria Police Force’s crackdown on a protest at Abuja and attacks on Omoyele Sowore today.

Omoyele Sowore, National Chair of the African Action Congress (AAC) and the National Convener of the Take it Back Movement (TIB) was shot by ACP - Altine Daniel at close range, following the live footage from his personal Facebook account, it will be recalled that ACP - Altine Daniel was also instrumental to the assault of Omoyele Sowore and four others on 1st of January during a peaceful procession in Abuja.

The Lagos state chapter reaffirms to the general public that the right to peaceful assembly is legitimate and enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and international treaties that Nigeria is a signatory to, we thus demand;

• All police officers involved in the shooting be brought to book IMMEDIATELY,

• All trumped up charges against Omoyele Sowore be dropped forthwith,

• Sowore’s constitutional rights and freedoms to speech, movement, etc be fully and unconditionally restored.

However, it is expedient to stress that this act will not deter us and will not dissuade us from further actions. #RevolutionNow is our pathway in the popular quest to end impunity and insecurity and, win our total liberation. We shall thus not waver, as we remain committed to keep flying the banner as a revolutionary strata of working people, youths and oppressed class.
