Gunmen kill 6, abduct 7 in Taraba

Six people have reportedly been killed while seven others were abducted in Taraba State in two attacks by gunmen suspected to be militia and bandits. 

In the first attack, the gunmen numbering about 15, were said to have killed four passengers and abducted seven others along a federal highway in the state. 

It was gathered that the incident occurred between Mahanga and Chediya towns located along Wukari-Jalingo road late Sunday night. The bandits reportedly took the passengers into the bush. 

A resident of the area, Musa Haruna, told reporter that the bandits were suspected to be part of the kidnappers dislodged from Mallam Ali area by hunters last month. 

He added that several persons including elderly women had been abducted in Dananacha, Sabongida, Tella and Gassol in Gassol Local Government Area. 

In the second attack, the gunmen suspected to be militia reportedly attacked Shamaki village also in Gassol LGA. It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering up to 30, attacked Shamaki, which is a Jukun settlement at about 2am on Monday. 

It was further gathered that youths in the village, who were also well-armed, confronted the attackers. Two youths were said to have been killed in the exchange of fire, which reportedly lasted for about two hours. The spokesman of the police in the state, DSP David Misal, confirmed the two incidents but did not provide any detail.
