The Boeing 737 had left Tehran's international airport bound for Kiev, the agency said, adding that 10 ambulances were sent to the crash site.
Ali Khashani, a senior public relations official at the Imam Khomeini International Airport, said the Boeing 737 — which was bound for Kiev— went down early Wednesday in the vicinity of Parand, a city in Robat Karim County, Tehran Province.

He said the crash was likely due to technical difficulties, the Fars news agency reported.

Rescue teams have been sent to the site of the crash, said Reza Jafarzadeh, a spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, saying there were 170 passengers aboard.

Pirhossein Koulivand, head of Iran’s emergency services, also said “the plane is on fire but we have sent crews ... and we may be able to save some passengers.”

According to the Iranian media, the Boeing 737-800 jet crashed near Parand, a suburb southwest of capital Tehran shortly after take-off.

There were no immediate reports on casualties.

According to Flighradar24 flight tracker, the Ukraine International Airline Flight 752 was scheduled to take off at 5:15am Tehran time heading to Boryspil International Airport in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

The actual departure time was delayed for almost an hour at 6:12am.

A video posted by Iran's ISNA news agency showed a faint glow of light flickering shortly before a huge explosion was seen.
