Macron in West Africa, says "colonialism was a grave mistake"

French President Emmanuel Macron has declared on Saturday during a joint press conference with the president of the Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara that Colonialism was a "grave mistake" and a "serious fault" made by the French Republic.

"Too often, France is perceived as taking a supremacy stance and to dress itself in the rags of colonialism, which has been a grave mistake, a serious fault of the Republic", Macron said.

He added that he hoped "a new page" of the story could be written.

The European countries partitioned African continent among themselves in the early 19th century immediately after the end of slave trade, after the able bodies of young men and women have been evacuated to Europe and Americas for forceful labour.

Britain, Germany, France, Belgium and Portugal among the European powers that divided the continent among themselves with France and Britain having vase areas after the Second World War.

Neither of the french colonial policy of Assimilation nor British colonial policy of indirect rules were aimed at developing the colonial people but for economy, mineral and African exploitation and benefits of the colonial masters.

Many of the valuables of the colonial land in term of mineral resources, artifacts and raw materials were excavated to Europe, not to talk of the atrocities and genocides committed against the Africans both during the slavery and colonialism eras.

"A new page" of the story could be written when colonial countries speak up on their atrocities against the blacks, committed to reparations of African artifacts and compensate the continent as the evils of colonialism still bedeviling the continent till today. People of different languages, culture and historical background were forcefully merged together for the selfishness of the European colonisers.

The evils that had been done against Blacks are more that holocaust. Despite these, Neo-Colonialism still continues in Africa for economic exploitation. Crisis of all short and lately terrorism are been sponsored to further divide the land for the European multinational companies to maintained their unrestricted access to the treasures of the land and forever making the continent, an appendage of the Europe.

Corruptions as its today in Africa, lack of respect for the rules of law among many others are parts of the legacies of colonialism in the continent.

President Macro can championed the African case among the rest of the colonial allies to reveal the extent of the evils done to the continent and then the necessary remedies can be determined.
