Iran's steel, aluminum, copper and iron industries have all been placed under sanctions by the United States since the America's  unilaterally withdrawal from the Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with the world powers and Germany.

On May 8, 2019, US President Donald Trump resumed a regime of sanction against Tehran with the Executive Order 13871 (EO 13871) which authorizes new sanctions against the iron, steel, aluminum and copper sectors of Iran.

The date of the new EO, May 8, 2019, marks the first anniversary of the US’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Following the failure of the EU signatories to the JCPOA to fulfill their pledge by helping Iran to evade the US sanctions, Tehran has also reneged on the nuclear deal.
