AFCON 2019: Nigeria's Super Eagles Beat Tunisia to claim Bronze Medal


Nigeria defeated the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia by 1-0 in the 3rd place match. A goal scored by Ighalo seal the Super Eagle victory.
Odion Ighalo who again scored the only goal of the game against Tunisia could be the tournament top scorer with 5 goals and already two goals ahead of Riyad Mahrez. Adam Ounas and Cedric Bakambu who are currently with three goals each.

Ighalo is the second Nigeria player to score 5 goals in AFCON after Rashidi Yekini of blessed memory.

.Super Eagles' defender William Troost EKong has been picked as the Man of the Match in the third place Nations Cup playoff.

Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) said the Nigerian defender had a “Stellar performance” in the 90 minutes showdown and deserves the award.

Ekong was instrument in the Nigeria’s defence and throughout the encounter the Tunisia attack failed to to get a goal.

In a slow-paced game between the two losing semi-finalists in Cairo, Tunisia went close as Ferjani Sassi and Ghaylene Chaalali shot wide.

Three-time winners Nigeria have now finished third eight times.

Tunisia, champions in 2004, needed a finger-tip save from Cherifia to deny Samuel Chukwueze in the second half and the keeper was called on again injury time to acrobatically save Samuel Kalu’s free-kick.

Senegal will look for their first Afcon title when they face 1990 winners Algeria in Friday’s final.
