Hate him or love him, one fact you can't deny HE Olusegun Obasanjo is his courage to say things the way he sees them. And it's ever without fear or favour. In a well-crafted six-page letter, the former president outlined the real problems holding the country back, urging Nigerian youths to grow past these perennial problems, "stop inheriting other people's prejudices and enemies. Make your own friends and stop inheriting your father's enemies." The elder statesman added and said many more.
I have, in many occasions in the past, disagreed with Obasanjo's opinions but never his facts as he usually presented them raw. In this letter, he once more laid the facts bare but this time around, his opinion while endorsing a president to lead today's Nigeria, aligned perfectly with mine. And further, his consideration before making that bold choice completely matches mine. As an octogenarian, the former president has seen from his sitting position what the youths can't see while standing and, as a patriot, appropriately addressing them for the good of their tomorrow.
No progressive Nigerian would be presented with all the 18 pairs of 2023 presidential choices without settling for the pair LP has brought forward in HE Peter Obi and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed. Whatever the combined forces opposing that bold choice say in trying to water down the strength of that endorsement is the lingering evidence that the members of the old order have refused to embrace truth even in the midst of promises of a better approach to leadership - all smacking of insincerity since the messenger, instead of the message, remains their point of attack.
