#NIGERIA@61: INDEPENDENCE UNDER NIGERIA GOVERNMENT IS SLAVERY - Harwolowo

*IT IS TIME TO UNIFY NIGERIA UNDER THE BANNER OF TRUE FEDERALISM AND RESTRUCTURING

OCTOBER 1ST 2021

By: Abiola Adam LATEEF (Harwolowo)

Nigeria became an independent Nation in October 1st 1960 and later became a Republican Nation in 1963. Nigeria independence came on a platter of gold, it was not an independence that came as a result of revolution compared to Eritrea, Finland, Hungary, South Africa Independence etc.

Nigeria become an independent Nation without agreement or terms and conditions from the white. They gave us independence and yet they control our economy through foreign institutions like world Bank, IMF and other imposed non-governmental institutions meant for such purpose.

A country is termed to be prosperous when the people of the country are Rich, Blessed and secured. Nigerians in Nigeria are not treated right, their right is been trampled upon and deprived of, freedom of expression and press infringed by the ruling class. Retrenchment of millions of workers in the last five years. A statistic report of Nigerian unemployed become second highest on global list. Empowerment program introduced by present Nigeria Government and past government is nothing but a cosmetic project that doesn't reflect in unemployment statistic. Workers take home allowance couldn't and cannot take them home. What is the value of a naira to a dollar in 1963 and today? What does market commodities look like? Independence under Nigeria government is indeed slavery, 65% of Nigerians couldn't afford 2square meal per pay. Which serious government will allow her resident doctors to embark on industrial actions and keep silent like everything is fine? How does our health institutions look like?

Nigeria government is a signatory to UNESCO recommendation of 26% annual budget on education but today reverse is the case, what is the state of Nigeria Education pre independent and post independent, how does our education institutions looks like in terms of infrastructure and learning conditions, how does our primary and secondary school looks like? where is the development? Where is the independence?

Nigeria Democracy has stylishly turned into military rule, a situation where men in khaki are used to intimidate and oppress Nigerians for no legal reason. Nigeria's democratic governance is another continuation of the crimes of military rule and dictatorship in in the country, though it will not delay the triumph of the will and power of the people. Rather, it will hasten it.

Government instruments of terrorism and other criminal act is part of slavery under Nigeria independent government where thousands of Nigerians lost their lives/properties to Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen and banditry and yet they claimed we are independent Nation and yet Nigerians are been killed like animals. Nigeria government failed to genuinely fight insecurity and attach lots of importance to rehabilitation of criminals into our society. A criminal has to be treated like one if truly we want to fight insecurities.

The implications of present Nigerian independent is complete slavery, Nigerians must unite and demand a genuine independent from the present political and economic order of personal interest.

Effort and energies need to be devoted to generating an elite, if not a national, consensus on the necessity of restructuring, defined the redistribution of power and resources from the federal to the state governments, to be embarked upon.

The embedded imbalance, inequities and perceived injustices in the current federal system in Nigeria have to be addressed as soon as possible to enable Nigeria and Nigerians to acquire the requisite stability and peaceful coexistence amenable to accelerated, sustainable socioeconomic development.

The best strategy for success is the pursuit of a systematic, incremental positive changes through constitutional amendments, in phases, commencing with a review and sanitizing of the Federal and Concurrent Legislative lists, giving more powers and resources to the states, complemented by other reform measures to nurture and entrench good, democratic governance at all levels, from the federal to states and local governments. The necessity of redressing the imbalance and inequities embedded in the current federal system in Nigeria has been ignored for too long, and any further neglect may irreparably imperil the efficacy and viability of the Nigerian federation.

Every October 1st is a day to protest and organize ourselves to demand True federalism and immediate restructuring.
