OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF OSUN STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI GBOYEGA OYETOLA ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF FLYOVER BRIDGE AT OLA-IYA

Gboyega oyetola

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter writes to applaud the Governor and his administration on their intention to embark on the construction of a flyover bridge. However, the construction of the bridge at this time is not one of the essential demands of many citizens in the state.

On the contrary, the government claims that the occurrence of accidents at the popular Ola-Iya junction, prompted the government to propose embarking on the construction of the flyover, which is not a true reflection of the situation as the traffic light still serves commuters compared to many other road junctions which need the urgent attention of the government.

The National Youth Council sampled the opinion of the citizens on the flyover project about to be embarked upon and it suffices to say that the project is contrary to the expectations and demands of the ordinary citizens from your Excellency.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State hereby table her demands.

1. That the state government reconsiders situating construction of the flyover bridge at either Oke-fia or popular Ọja-Oba round about or better still construct other roads that need more attention.

2.That the Governor declares to the public the amount to be expended on the construction of the flyover bridge.

3. That the state government considers including pedestrian crossing in any of the construction of flyovers for ordinary citizens.

4.That the government implements citizens' need assessment by PERL and other civil society organisations.

We implore the State Government to carefully look into the above mentioned points and focus on what directly impacts the larger population than on what makes statement without real impact on the populace.
