OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY 4TH OF OCTOBER, 2020: ANOINTING OR APPOINTMENT

THEME: ANOINTING OR APPOINTMENT

MEMORISE:

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. Acts 6:3

READ: Acts 6:5-8

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

MESSAGE:

There are clear differences between the anointed and the appointed: the former is greater than the latter and so controls it. Do not seek or lobby for an appointment, rather seek anointing. Anointing is the supernatural ability to do something. God has a purpose for your life and thus gives you the necessary ability to achieve it. When you pursue an appointment that God has not anointed you for, you will live under stress and pressure. However, when you seek the anointing, the right appointment will follow and you will get great results.

In Acts 6:3. We see the correct order that things should follow. First, you must be full of the Holy Ghost’s anointing and power, then you will get the right appointment. Your focus should therefore be on the anointing and not the appointment. The appointment is merely a platform for the manifestation of the anointing. Before Stephen was appointed as a deacon, he had already been anointed by the Holy Ghost, but we did not hear of him preaching the gospel or performing miracles until the appointment came. After the appointment, Acts 6:7-8 says:

*“ And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.”*

This tells us that when you appoint the anointed, great exploits follow. If you have the privilege of choosing people for any appointment (in Church or otherwise), ensure you select those who are anointed with the supernatural ability from God to function.

If you have been appointed into a role that you are not anointed for, then first, check if that appointment is God’s purpose for your life. If it is His purpose for your life, then you must cry to Him for anointing. Being appointed without being anointed can never produce excellence.

KEY POINT:

Seek the anointing first before the appointment.

HYMN 4:

1. Take my life and let it be

Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days,

Let them flow in endless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move

At the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet and let them be

Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing,

Always, only for my King.

Take my lips and let them be

Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,

Not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect and use

Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,

It shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart, it is Thine own,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour

At Thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself and I will be

Ever, only, all for Thee.
