UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab says US airstrikes against a pro-Iranian group in Iraq "proportionate"

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab says US airstrikes against a pro-Iranian group in Iraq were a "proportionate" response to the deaths of two Americans and one Briton in a rocket attack.

Raab warned that anyone seeking to harm those forces (coalition forces) could expect a strong response.

US forces in Iraq on Thursday (Mar 13) waged a series of precision air strikes against an Iran-backed militia in Iraq that it blamed for a major rocket attack which had killed two American troops and a 26-year-old British soldier a day earlier.

"UK forces are in Iraq with Coalition partners to help the country counter terrorist activity and anyone seeking to harm them can expect a strong response," Raab said in a statement on Friday.

Iraqi parliament had in January after the US assassination of top Iranian General Qaseem Soleimani, passed a resolution mandating America to relocate and evacuate its troops from the country with US president Donald Trump threatening sanctions against Baghda.

Iran on Friday warned Donald Trump against taking "dangerous actions" after US forces launched air strikes against a pro-Iranian group based in neighbouring Iraq.
