Sanusi II |
Immediately after he was dethroned by the Kano state government, Sanusi was reportedly arrested and banished to Nassarwa state, which SERAP considered an infringement on the fundamental rights of the dethroned Emir.
"We'll take legal action against Nigerian and Kano state authorities to enforce dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II fundamental right, if he is not released from illegal detention within the next 48 hours.
SERAP said Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, dethroned Emir of Kano and Muhammad Sanusi II, is an anticorruption and rights activist. He’s being persecuted for his critical views and activism.
That’s why we’ll vigorously pursue legal action to enforce his human rights including right to liberty. SERAP said.
Kano state government installed Aminu Ado Bayero the son of Sanusi's predecessor Ado Bayer as the new Emir of Kano.
