Erdogan vows Turkey is determined to retaliate any attack on forces in Syria

Press TV, Istanbul: Turkish president says the country is determined to retaliate any attacks against its forces in Syria and warned Russia not to stand in the way. Erdogan urged Russia to 'assume its obligations' in Syria's Idlib.

The remarks came after six Turkish soldier were killed and many others wounded in the restive province of Idlib. Erdogan said a Turkish operation is underway in Idlib, which has so far left 30 to 35 Syrian soldiers dead.

Damascus has not made any comments. But, Russia which backs the Syrian government in its anti-terror operations, has reacted. The Russian defense ministry has said the attack took place against Turkish forces, because Ankara had failed to warn Moscow about the Turkish operations in Idlib.

Turkey has deployed F-16 fighter jets against Syrian government forces in northwestern Syria on Monday, a sharp escalation of the conflict there. Russian and Turkish leaders have met frequently over past years to discuss Syria and in particular Idlib province.

Observers say, given differences of opinion between Turkey and Russia over Idlib future, the two sides have a bumpy road to settle Idlib crisis.
