Trump in Davos, says US has enjoyed the "great American comeback"

It’s President Trump’s second visit to Davos. Two years ago he told the summit: “ I will always put America First ... But America First does not mean America alone.”

Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman, introduces Trump: “Mr President, welcome back to this stage.”

"Great American comeback"

Trump says that since he last addressed Davos, two years ago, the US has enjoyed the "great American comeback" that he had predicted:

"Today I am proud to declare that the United States is in the midst of an economic boom the like of which has never been seen before...

"I knew that if we unleashed the potential of our people, cut taxes, slashed regulation, fixed broken trade deals and fully tapped American energy that prosperity would come thundering back ... and that is exactly what happened...

"Years of economic stagnation have given way to a roaring geyser of opportunity."

Innovation and technology offer huge opportunities, President Trump tells #wef20, far exceeding the achievements of the previous century, allowing people to live longer, happier lives.

"Our relationship with China right now has probably never been better," Trump says after listing concessions he says China has made on trade, particularly in intellectual property, ending "forced technology transfers", lifting trade barriers on agricultural goods, opening up the financial sector and maintaining a stable currency.

"My relationship with Xi [Jinping] is extraordinary He's for China, I'm for the US but other than that we love each other."

"Today I'm pleased to announce the US will joining the one trillion trees initiative," Trump said.

"This is not a time for pessimism ...this is a time for optimism ... but to embrace tomorrow we must reject the many prophets of doom."
