Ex Nigerian International Eguavoen demands Eagles' Coach Rohr lives, works in Nigeria

A former Nigerian international, Austin Eguavoen has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr lives and works in the country.

The former Super Eagles coach, in a chat however applauded the German tactician for his efforts at rebuilding the national team said,“I think Gernot Rohr has done well. He should be retained but there must be conditions. If you own an entity, you should be able to lay down the rules and regulations. "

“When we were playing, Clemens Westerhof lived in Nigeria. We all knew his address. An apartment was rented for him. The only thing I don’t agree with Rohr is him living abroad and coaching our team here."

“If he wants to do that, he should be given a short term contract. And short term contract won’t help us. Rohr needs to live here,” he said.

The former defender also said there was the need for the coach to invite players from the Nigerian league into the national team.
On Tuesday, the Rohr s Eagles were paired along with Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia in Group C in the second round of Africa’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Against the backdrop of opinions the West Africans have been handed an easy draw, the German tactician believes his opponents will be complicated.

Rohr said: “We have three tricky opponents in Group C. A few years ago, Cape Verde were Africa’s best Fifa ranked team, CAR have some good players in Europe,” he said, as per Super Eagles Twitter.

“We played a friendly in Liberia recently that wasn’t easy...we’ve to be at our best against them.”

The Super Eagles will hope to make it to the third round of the qualifiers in their quest to reach the global tournament for the seventh time.
