Why Ronaldo snubed Ballon d’Or for Gran Gala ceremony, Won Serie A Player and Striker of the year

Ronaldo becomes the first player ever to win the Best Player award in three different Leagues

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the Serie A Player of the Year in a ceremony held in Milan last night. He was voted as both the best player and best striker of the year.

Contrary to the info that the Juventus forward jettisoned appearing at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris after having the hints that Lionel Messi is set to win his sixth gong, but the Portuguese's absence has now been explained as he bagged two personal awards himself.

According to a source, multiple reports claim the Portuguese star isn’t on the podium for the prize, with his Barcelona rival winning for a record sixth time and Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah on either side.

Now, Sport Mediaset is running that Ronaldo has learned of his ranking, outside the top three, and has therefore decided not to attend the event.

Instead, he turned out at the Gran Gala ceremony in Milan – also being held on Monday night – to receive the award for best Serie A player of last season.

While Messi lifted his record-breaking sixth Ballon d'Or in Paris, Ronaldo claimed the MVP accolade for the best player in Serie A last season, as well as the prize for the best forward in Italy's top flight, which he shared with Fabio Quagliarella and Duvan Zapata.

The 34-year-old debuted as a Juve player with 21 League goals during the 2018-19 campaign but has managed just six so far this term.

With this Gran Gala Award, Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first player ever to win the best player award in three different league in Europe,

Best player in the Premier League, the La Liga and the Serie A.

A round of applause for the football Legend!!!!!

Ronaldo Speaks: "I will try to speak Italian. I am proud to be considered the best striker in Italy," Ronaldo said, as quoted by Football Italia.

"I thank my teammates, the players who voted for me. After two years in Italy, I can say it is a very difficult league.

"I thank everyone for voting for me and hope next year will be the same."

Ronaldo also made the official 2018/19 Team of the Season, and is one of four Juventus players in the selection. His teammates Giorgio Chiellini and Miralem Pjanic, as well as Joao Cancelo, who has since joined Manchester City, were all selected as well.
