The DSS spokesman Mr. Peter Afunanya confirms Sowore's arrest saying that he was taken into custody because “he called for a revolution in Nigeria.” Oyo AAC called his arrest unconstitutional and illegal as the constitution clearly guarantee the right of Nigerians to engage in peaceful protests.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the party in the state, Comrade Ogunlana Rotimi Jacob, "the DSS claims that Omoyele Sowore led #RevolutionNow nationwide protest slated for August 5th to demand a more progressive, prosperous and peaceful Nigeria was unconstitutional and illegal even though the same constitution clearly guarantee the right of Nigerians to engage in peaceful protests."

"It is no more news that the Buhari led dictatorial administration does not respect the constitutional rights of Nigerians. At every turn, the regime has continued to silence every opposition through brute force and violence reminding us the dark days of oppressive military regimes. "

Therefore the party has join millions of Nigerians to condemn the unlawful arrest of Omoyele Sowore and unequivocally demand his immediate and unconditional release. the chairman said

In the early hours of August 3, 2019, the nation woke up to the disturbing news of the arrest of our National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore, in a Gestapo-like manner by the DSS and Police Force.

The DSS claims that Omoyele Sowore led #RevolutionNow nationwide protest slated for August 5th to demand a more progressive, prosperous and peaceful Nigeria was unconstitutional and illegal even though the same constitution clearly guarantee the right of Nigerians to engage in peaceful protests.

It is no more news that the Buhari led dictatorial administration does not respect the constitutional rights of Nigerians. At every turn, the regime has continued to silence every opposition through brute force and violence reminding us the dark days of oppressive military regimes.

We hereby join millions of Nigerians to condemn the unlawful arrest of Omoyele Sowore and unequivocally demand his immediate and unconditional release.
