The latest to join in the protest against the murder of a Catholic Priest in Enugu yesterday by unknown gunmen is the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, AMEN, Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

The Catholic priests are protesting the murder of one of their own and the Parish Priest of St. James Greater Parish, Ugbawka, Rev. Father Paul Offu who was gruesomely murdered on Thursday.

Father Mbaka, the firebrand priest was seen amongst the protesters with a placard.

His placard reads; "When will this madness of the Fulani Herdsmen stop?"

Reacting to the incident, the PDP Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections Alhaj Atiku Abubakar on his twitter page said the  killing of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu in Enugu State is yet another reminder that no one is immune from this ravaging epidemic. He condoles with the Offu family and the Catholic Church in Nigeria with a prayer that may his soul Rest In Peace.

Atiku Abubakar @atiku: The killing of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu in Enugu State is yet another reminder that no one is immune from this ravaging epidemic. My deepest condolences to the Offu family and the Catholic Church in Nigeria. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Although the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has also sent his condolences to the Catholic Church over the killing of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu by suspected herdsmen.

A statement by a Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, said that “President Buhari expressed deep shock and dismay over the killing of another priest, ordering a thorough manhunt for the killers and their immediate prosecution.

“The President commiserates with government and people of Enugu State, family of Rev Fr. Offu and members of the parish and all Christians.”

He further described the killing of the priest as “barbaric and unwarranted.”

Buhari assured the Catholic Church and all Nigerians that the fight against “lawlessness and recklessness’’ will be intensified as security of lives and property continues to top his priorities.

“The entire nation is shaken by the horrible assassination of this priest. The administration will continue to guarantee the freedom of religion and protect places of worship as well as the lives of citizens wherever they live,” he added.

Directing law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in their investigations and bring the perpetrators of the “horrific crime’’ to book, the President calls on all religious leaders to pray for peace, healing and security of the country.

Under Buhari administration, killings of all shots have become order of the day. Boko Haram terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and herdsmen trespasses have claimed more live than any time in the history of Nigeria with the exception of only the civil war.
