FAAN officer arrested for stealing pilgrims $600 BTA

The Adamawa State police have arrested a female security staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Jennifer Luka, for allegedly stealing $300 each from two pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.

The Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman, who confirmed the arrest said the affected FAAN officer was in their custody undergoing interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID.

DSP Suleiman said that as soon as the operatives were done with the investigation, the officer would be taken to court for prosecution.

An investigation by Radio Nigeria in Yola revealed that the said officer is popularly known as ‘Ramatu allegedly picked $300(dollars) each from her two victims luggage in the process of searching for prohibited items during clearance before boarding the pilgrims plane.

The two victims, Hafsatu Mohammed and Aishatu Alhaji Buba after the normal routine check by the embattled officer observed shortage in their Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA) of $800 each by $300 each and raised an alarm which attracted the attention of other security operatives at the scene.

Manager of Yola Airport, Mr Adamu Sheilk said the management had issued a query on the erring officer which she answered before handing her over to the police for necessary action.

He said they have done the needful and has forwarded to their corporate Head Quarters in Abuja for final decision on the matter.
