Six people, including aid worker, missing after Boko Haram attack in Borno - NGO

A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), One Action Against Hunger has said a staff member, two drivers and three other health workers are missing after an attack on a convoy on the road to Damasak, Borno state, northeast Nigeria.

One driver was killed during the attack carried out by the Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) a fictional Boko Haram Terrorists while six others are missing, the aid organisation said in a statement on Friday.

The attack, according to Country Director of Action Against Hunger, Shashwat Saraf, happened on Thursday, July 18, 2019.

“On Thursday 18 July 2019, a convoy of vehicles was attacked on the road to Damasak, Borno state, Nigeria. One of the drivers was killed, while one Action Against Hunger staff member, two of the drivers and three health workers are missing.”

Rr Saraf expressed concerns and said that efforts will be made to reunite the abducted with their families.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident as these colleagues are dedicated to providing life-saving assistance to individuals and families," Action Against Hunger said of Thursday's attack.

Islamist insurgents carried out the attack and kidnapped the surviving members of the convoy, sources told Reuters earlier on Friday.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family of our driver and we extend our support to the family of our missing colleagues as well as others affected by this incident.”

Non of the ISWAP  and Boko Haram Islamists are yet to claim responsibility of the attack.

The Nigeria's federal government of President Muhammadu Buhari and the military have severally claimed victory over the insurgents that they have been ravaging the country since 2009 which have  killed thousands and displaced millions in the lake Chad region.

Boko Haram terrorism, Herdsmen trespasses and banditry in the face of poverty and youth unemployment  remain the major security and economy challenges confronting the most populous black country.
